I raced a trans am with headers, exhaust and nos yesterday (which he used). I started out in 2nd gear and we started at about 30 mph. I could have been in first gear but I would have just spun the tires at that point so i started in second which might not have been smart. Anyways, he beat me with the nos, it was fairly close but he was definitely pulling on me. Do you think if I had 3.73's I would have took him?

judging by your power numbers, I would say that without the gas he dynos close to you with the blower. Gears will help but I dont know if they will make up that difference. He may have been using the gas with a button setup just to get ahead and stay ahead. he may not have been full in it with the gas the entire run. Gears do help big time, espescially from a low speed dig like you went from. It would definitely put you in your boost range quicker.

LT1 or LS1 Fbody, doubt gears will help that much if he's pulling you on a roll already. Many late LS1s dyno well over 300 rwhp stock, some up to 320+ so with LTs figure those add some decent power and depending on what size shot he's probably making pretty good power overall on teh spray.

Well I noticed you have the nitto's 555 which will help you hook up nice. But you definently need 4:10's not 3:73's with the 3:73's and the power you have you will be dissapointed. You car has nice numbers on hp but remember mustangs hook up nicely and with gears it makes a world of difference. So I believe with gears yes you can beat the TA if you are hitting your gears right. Launch at about 4 grand and if u r at a 30mph roll u can launch nice in second with 4:10's. Horse power is not everything!

no, I don't. Unless he was running a small 50 shot, which I highly doubt. Most will hook up a 100 shot.

LS1, headers, 100 shot, thats pretty close to a 120 trapping vehicle. No way a gear change alone would have helped you that much from a roll.

in my previous car, a 1990 5.0 GT I went from 14.8 to 13.9 with only 3.73 and nothing else. maybe it wouldn't make such a huge diff with a much faster car but it did help me quite a bit. I am guessing that you have a manual but if u have an auto I would suggest 4.10's

I'd give the LT1 another 10-15 hp over rated, those engines were underrated also. I wouldn't say most or even many LS1s are dynoing over 300hp at the wheels. 280-295 isn't uncommon but over 300 I haven't seen more than a couple times on bone stock vehicles in person. I'm talking corrected number here because I've probably never seen a stock LS1 dyno over 300 uncorrected in this crappy altitude/weather.

Gears would have helped but I imagine he still may have edged you out depending on what size shot he was using and how he was using it, button, WOT switch, whatever.
