with a one wheel peel and 2.73s. and not being able to hold low1 in my AOD

Think if i added a rebuilt rear with 3.90s how much time would it lower my E/Ts??

I have had some people tell me i would drop like a whole second, since both tires will spin and the gears a much steeper.

your opinions??

Without a doubt, the tall gears are killing you, and both tires with et streets would give you atleast 4 times the traction. That would really wake the car up. If it still isnt right, just sell the thing. Why cant you hold 1st in your auto?

WHY do you keep asking the same questions when you know the answer? You are aware of the AOD issue...fix it...you have another rear end available...swap it. Save you cash, rebuild the engine...fix what needs to be fixed, or sell it and be done with it. I hate to sound like an SOB, but you flip flop more than I can count.

lol i agree. even with your aod problems a 16.8 is extremely bad. rebuild the motor first, then the trans, then the rear

Sorry, but i don't think that you are going to drop a second if you put the gears. You need to rebuild that engine and fix that AOD

16.8 is pretty slow and if I can remember your MPH wasn't that great either. That 2.73 and the worn out traction-loc had to be a real big part of the problem. I am sure you will at least be in the 15's. You've fixed a few other issues since then, so no doubt you'll be ahead. Have you driven it? How does it feel if so?

He flip-flops like John Kerry between a NRA and NAACP meeting, but the difference is I think he has the general picture. The grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence.

I had a '94 Crown Vic Interceptor that would run consistent 16.8's all day long. Wasn't anything wrong with it ... except for the fact that it weighed something like 4,300 lbs. ...

Yeah, 16.8 is horrible. My previous '89 notch would run consistent 15.0's with a T-5 and 3.08's, and nothing done to it except an off-road H-pipe ... and I was (and likely still am) a crappy 1/4 mile driver. With a stock AOD at similar altitude, even with the granny gears, you should be turning in high 15's. Everyone's pointing to the gears, which obviously aren't big performers, but aside from that something else is VERY wrong.

First off, the aforementioned tranny issue ... whatever issue it is you're having. Fix dat. If that isn't the sole cause of your woes, give it a full tune-up (plugs, wires, cap/rotor, all filters/fluids, clean EGR/IAC/TB/MAF, check timing), check for leaking vacuum hoses, and maybe even a leaking intake manifold gasket.

Iron out the basics and you'll likely feel a huge difference. Only when you're sure that everything's peachy, THEN you should give the track another try and see what kinda times it pulls. Rule of thumb (for me) about hitting the track: If the car isn't running at 100% to begin with, hauling it down the 1/4 mile is just asking for embarrassment (or for something to break). Good luck!

the lever on the tranny is messd up, i guess it was put on wrong in a rebuild.... the tranny isnt orignal , he said it was rebuilt. but the cable gets a bad angle to pull from and it cant pull into low 1.

I wouldnt mind selling it but i will lose so much i have done, i havent done anything major so i might as well get rid of it. I could find a good 5 speed 5.0 and freshen it up if needed and drop my 3.90 in it.

What exactly is wrong with the engine? What is this particular tranny out of? Unless the car is a total pile, I don't know why you'd give up on it. Things go wrong with any older car. It's totally different if the paint/body are bad.

84MPH is way too low...even with the AOD. Something is wrong with your car. You need to fix it before adding more mods.

I ran 14.8 @ 93MPH with my AOD car....stock. You should be trapping 92-93MPH with your car. You are losing power somewhere

dude, u just have to decide what ur gonna do with ur car, ur always posting if i do this or if i do that or should i sell it or should i buy this car...you have to do somthing...my friends stock mazda 626 ran a 17.1 and thats auto, so seriously...just sell it and buy another 5.0 with a manual and some stuff done to it, or finally do somthing to ur car and stop asking about whether u should do this or that....its obv thats gears and a rebuilt rear end will help ur times, along with a new tranny...you shouldnt have to ask us if that will help ur car perform better so why ask you no? so either sell it or fix it right away

well my motor is weak, or at least it sounds like it. I can hear ticking and my number 5 cyl has a slap to it. Cant hear it much but sometimes it will knock.

I know you guys think its a piece of **** car but in reality its not. I mean its slow but its really loud and sounds nice and people give me compliments all the time.
Runs smooth and idles great. Its just that i drive it all the time and know the problems and i cant get on it without thinking i am hurting the car. When i get on it some, not like WOT but like 3/4 i will more ticking and valvetrain, and piston slapping more than i hear the hum of the exhaust.

I think that the slowness is from a combination of a weak and worn motor. That tranny lever thing and the peglegging 2.73 rear.

If the car's not a piece of crap and you like it......then just rebuild the engine. Save up some money, don't worry about gears or any of that stuff right now, just concentrate on getting that engine running right.

i like the car alot but its just sucks not being to romp on it and enjoy it like a 5.0 was meant to be enjoyed.

i am really wanted to rebuild the motor?
should i expect a good gain in power just by a rebuild??? assuming the motor is weaker than normal?? ( i mean an actual gain that i can feel, not just a small one.)
sorry to annoy all you guys but i got to start somewhere.

a rebuilt engine is basically a new engine, it will run like a dream, trust me

have you checked your oil lately? or go to autozone and buy an oil pressure gauge and hook it up to see what kind of oil pressure you're getting

that piston slap and valvetrain noise was definitely caused by a lack of oil/oil pressure, and chances are youve already ****ed that engine over if you're driving it every day

OT: my buddy has a 96 integra RS and ran his oil so low he had significant power loss and a puttering noise from his exhaust sometimes... finally got it checked out and he had probably 2 quarts of oil in it, if i was generous

hes shopping for a used b-16 with DOHC VTEC now and he thinks hes gonna gimme a run for my money haha... NOT

my point is... oil is important lol
