I should have went deeper than 4:10's

you guys must not do the type of freeway driving that I do then....I just hate shifting so much though....4.10's on my 5.0 was worse than on the cobra thats for sure. I agree...if you didn't notice much from the 4.10's then something is wrong with you man.....

............I think whats wrong is back in 2001 I had a 89 GT that was street legal and ran 9 flat at 150mph with a Yates headed small block and a small shot of NOS. Nothing else seems to compare! (although 116 race gas gets expensive)

I've been reading all these posts over the last year speaking to how great the 4:10 gear is and my guess is that most guys on this board havent gone to far into the 13's, which is cool because you have to start somewhere.

I bought this car instead of a new BMW a couple of years ago as a leisure car
that my wife and I can take on vacations in the summer and I can hang with my old racing buddies with my kids once in a while and make a few passes down the strip. I guess I need to keep things in perspective :D

I love my 4.10s, and anything less would have really upset me.I think I could have lived with the 4.30s, and if I get another stang that I plan on keeping n/a, that's probably what I'll get.

speak of mutually assured destruction.nice story, tell it to reader's digest.

What's with all the Megadeth posts?

I agree for an N/A setup. I wouldn't go less than 4.10's. For a forced induction application I would go 3.73's. Actually I'm having 3.73's put in the car tomorrow. I guess that means there is a nice huffer sitting at home waiting to be installed!!! :D

For a Cobra, I would probably consider a 4.30 gear, although I do a lot of highway driving (over 100 miles/day) so I would probably stick with the 4.10's. The 4V engine needs a steep gear like that to get it in the powerband.

not everyone races at the track though keep that in mind. You are at 2600 rpm at 80 mph you said????? Hummmm I'm at like 29-30 I think.

You're right, the rpm should be more close to 3000rpm at 80mph. 2500rpm is for 3.55 gears.
If he reads 80mph at 2500 with 4.10 gears, his speedo is way off :D His real speed is more like 65mph only :(

Depending on what year his car is he might have the 3650 tranny. Its 5th gear is deeper (.62) than the T45 (.68). I believe the 02 and newer have the T3650 and with 4.10 they will be around 3000 rpm at 90 mph. The T45 at 3000 rpm is at 80 mph.
