2001 mustang GT, 136,000 miles. Had a horrible squeak when i turned my wheels, couldnt figure out what it was for months. Had my brother instal moog steering rack bushings, changed my sway bar link bushings myself because they were all rotted... still the sqeak didnt go away...

Finally i was reading online to poke a hole in the tie rod end boot, and spray silicone lubricant. So i cut one of those red straws on an angle, poked it through the boot, sprayed silicone, and walla, NO MORE HORRIBLESQUEAK...

Just thought i would post this for people with the same problem.

Now for my question. Is this safe. Should i get my tie rods replaced, or can i just spray it everyonce in a while? What are the consequences, like will my wheel fall of with tie rod ends that havent been maintained? With a small hole in this rubber, i assume debri may get in now as well, does that matter. I guess having it lubed is better than no hole in the rubber and it sqeaking?

When I did my front control arms I accidentally poked a hole in my driver boot (socket kinda ripped it a tad while spinning) and I haven't had a problem yet.

I won't say you don't NEED to replace it, but a small hole like that doesn't seem to create a large problem

Your tie rod is not going to fall off. It will just start squeaking when the lubrication is gone. Thanks to ford for putting sealed tie rods on the stang. Its not any danger to you at all.
