When I am going about 10 mph at the most, I hear a ticking coming from under the rear or the car. It doesn't matter if it is in gear or not. It kind of sounds like a zip tie is on my driveshaft but a lot louder. I need help quick! I should probably park my car

Ok well I didn't think so but I checked anyway and there is no bolts or screws stuck in my tire. Also, I forgot to mention this, but when I pull out from anywhere at around 1000 rpms I get a really bad vibration from the rear end. I mean really bad. Everything shakes. My exhaust, ground effects... everything.

Check the u-joints like stated above, and check the driveshaft to see if maybe you have some kind of dents or something in it. Sounds like the u-joints though.

You're talking about the vibrations right? I will check the whole driveshaft tomorrow to see what I can find. What about the ticking noise? Maybe its my rear gears so I need to upgrade even though it isn't cheap

I would check the trany fluid.I have a aod and it had that ticking sound but not the vibration. If you got a aod smell the trany fluid to see if it is burnt or if the fluid is red not burnt too.how's the car shifting? It's hard to tell your aod is on its way out til it's to late cause the way the valvebody meters the fluid(shifts like ****).A shift kit no cheaper then 50.00 is needed in every aod along with a trany cooler at same time.Cause the shift kits create more heat in the trany.Anyone that has not read up on the ford aod and how it even got in the 5.0;s should.Especially if you plan on adding some more hp.

sounds like u-joints to me too, the driveshaft can "telegraph" and amplify the sound of the u-joints. Grab the driveshaft and try and shake it, if the u-joints are bad, you'll know it.

Well I didn't get to get a chance to get under the car today but I got to thinking. Wouldn't the u-joints only be making noises when the driveshaft is spinning? I can hear the noise anytime below 10 mph whether it be in gear or in neutral.

How about an exhaust rattle?

Pull up aside a wall or another car, push the clutch in and step on the gas. THe wall will help broadcast the sound back to you.

I had something like this and it was a loose exhaust hanger.

Could it be something with the brakes in the back? It seems to make the noise everytime the wheel makes one full turn almost. It kind of sounds like something metal is hitting and scraping another piece of metal.

Ok so the driveshaft spins no matter what as long as the car is moving? Sorry for being a pain in the @ss but I just hate having problems with my car and I have plenty of them right now.

yes, think about it, when you step on the clutch, you disengage the engine from the driveshaft. There is no clutch on the differential, just the u-joints, it has to spin if the car is moving. just reach under there and try and move the shaft, twist and shake it, if the u-joints are bad, you'll be able to tell.....

If you hate having problems so much get under that thing and check those joints.

Not only should that be annoying, but it could also be dangerous, if the front joint is bad. There is the potential for the driveshaft to "dig-in" to the concrete and flip the car over.
