Well after some long hard delliberation and a couple beers, me thinx I will go with a 351 W crate engine...or if anyone has any opinions or info on what they did with their 351 would be much abliged. Looking for 400HP. without major work.

update on my 67-68 project. Got the car completely disassembled (except suspension cuz I need to be able to take it over to the shop for quarter replacement.) Not to bad of shape after all the crap is gone. I will get some pics soon. Roomate took camra.

400FWHP is so easy with a 351 it is not even funny. I made many compromises on mine for reliability, streetability and longevity and am still expecting about ~420FWHP. I am not going to engage in a pi$$ing contest or try to say that my solution is the best but here's what I did...

I paid for an upgraded, blueprinted, racing shortblock (from DSS Racing) that is good to about 8,000RPM.

Bought off-the-shelf aluminum heads with 2.02i and 1.60e valves.

Bought off-the-shelf aluminum intake that is matched to the heads (all Performer RPM).

Was going to do the entire Performer RPM kit but engine builder talked me out of using that cam, so I have a 224/236 .506/.506 profile one instead.

Saved/made a few ponies with roller cam and valvetrain and an elctric water pump.

Long tube headers and 2.5 inch exhaust with magnaflow muffs.

Thing should idle smooth and below 1,000RPMs, have plenty of vacuum for brakes and run on pump gas due to (low) compression 9.5:1. See more about it at http://www.edbert.net/gta.htm

A 351w is a great choice. 400 fwhp is no problem even in street trim. Edbert's engine should be very strong and streetable.

I was going the same route as edbert, except at the last minute, I decided to go with a 342 stroker so I could reuse alot of stuff off of my 302 now. Once I decided on the short block and checked on prices to finish out long block, I found it cheaper and easier to buy the long block. Then I found it easier to buy canton deep pan and pickup and have that along with timing chain cover and balancer installed too. Then I almost decided to buy intake, holley and ignition from them so they could set everything and dyno tune it for me. But I backed off cause I have a good intake and holley and their dyno was real expensive. Turned out that I would have spent the same amount of money for what I thought was too much for a 500hp ready to run crate engine in the first place.

Oh and darkness, DSS is looking like my first choice for the 351. That is, IF i decide on a 351 lol. I hate decisions...

If I had to do it all over again, I wuld have bought a FORD crate 302, and thrown a paxton supercharger on it. You get reliability, power, and less weight with that combo. Just my 2 cents...

I hear ya. I looked at DSS, CHP, speedomotive( heard bad things, and they use cheaper parts), and decided on DNDMotorsports. The quality of parts just seemed the best for the money to me. Like the block girdle being standard on their short blocks instead of an add on. And forged steel H beam rods instead of I beam. Fully forged bottom end, and fully rollerized top end with AFR.s Some of this stuff was alot extra at other places. Should be about three more weeks on delivery. Took me three months to decide to do it. Now I'm like, I can't put these old headers on this engine, and I can't reuse that old painted black waterpump, and etcc...Might as well have gotten the 408 stroker for all the new parts I'm buying anyway. Oh yeah, my nice cobra valve covers on my other engine that I planned to reuse would not have cleared the roller rockers, so...

ps. Too be clear, the is for speedomotive only.
