I think I made a BIG mess...

Long story short, I'm in the Bronx at school, and my car is an hour away in Staten Island where I live. I won't be home until Friday, so can someone reassure me here:

My oil pan bolts are loosened. All of the bolts are in the bolt holes WITH the pan on it and everything, but they are backed out a little bit to allow me to replace the timing chain cover. The 2 very front bolts are tightened, and a stud on the driverside rearword is fully tightened. (pan is hanging less than a 1/2" down). Not paying attention, I added 5 quarts of oil. I ran out and forgot about it, and I can only worry about what my poor driveway looks like. How high does the oil sit in the pan? did I make a big mess or what?

This just begs the question...are you saying that you loosened all of your oil pan bolts to remove the timing chain cover?

You only need to remove the 4 front bolts that go into the cover itself to remove and re-install the timing chain cover. All the others could have remain tightened....

LOL, dont feel bad man we've all done it, but no the 5 qts wont make a big difference. Heres a good one for you, I was at work one day at the dealer, hungover and half asleep, doing an oil change on a friends 6.0 Deisel that holds 15 qts. Well I was busy as ****, being rushed around all over to help everyone else with everything, never even racked the trucked just rolled under neath it, drained the oil. The oil filter is up top so I put that in, then I proceeded to pump the truck with the 15 qts of oil it holds without a drain plug in the pan. :rlaugh: Talk about a ****ing mess, I was moping the floor for 2 hours, after kitty litter.
