I think my 10 years old 100K miles 302 is tired , meybe this is time for 331

I have some problems since saturday b/c I was racing on the track and next day I start car and get problem with some kinda miss fireing , I thing cilynder #8 doesn't work for some reason , tomorrow I gonna do compression test and see is there anything broke in head or piston
So meybe my old little 302 is tired little bit and I may be looking for 331 BUT I don't know anything about stroked/bored engine and I don't know much about heads , lifters , Cam etc.
So please help me with this

Depends on what you are looking at. You can buy just the cheap 331 rotating assembly, bore your block and install things yourself for under $1500. Or you can get a full out 331 for about $6,000 that could handle 1,000hp.

I'm in a similar situation....

I'm running a stock 302 going on 198,000 miles . It doesn't feel like it should in terms of performance though . I'm wondering if I should get it rebuilt or if I should buy another 302. My future plans involve force feeding the engine via a supercharger along with the necessary parts. The 302 should be able to handle that and still last another 100,000 miles...I hope...so I don't need to buy a larger displacement engine.

What's the typical cost for an engine rebuilt for a 302?

Today I do compression test and all 8 cilynder have good PSI 132-147psi http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?p=4069025#post4069025 and this is with almost cold engine b/c I can't work close to headers , if frickin hot over there

Looks like my 302 have no compression when runing , and looks like piston rings are bad
Today I find 95 GT engine with 63K miles , some from Stang with 5 speed , Junk yard want $850 + tax and $200 core , good deal or not

Not that great of a deal. I picked up a complete used low mile shortblock 351w motor for my truck for $150. And Ive seen low mile longblocks for like 4-500. Go here and have a look around. Look at the longblocks, they are complete and ready to roll.

I know the prices make you wanna sh-- your pants but it is totally worth it for what you get. First off, the motor will be brand new and last another 10 years if you take care of it. Two, those guys know what they are doing and you are getting the best in modern technology you can find anywhere you wont have to figgure out what lifters what pushrods what valvesprings to put in, etc. It is all figured out for you. Three, building you own motor cost about as much as those guys are charging and takes alot of time and you need a truck. Putting in a complete motor is not that hard though, or you could have someone else do it. Your mustang will be ALOT faster than what it is now, and youll enjoy it for years to come.
