Here's the total that I have spent on my car so far in the month of November, 2008 - not including gas:
  • Water pump parts - $200
  • Post-water pump install repair - $300
  • Removing a bad wheel stud - $40
  • New front hub to replace hub that held bad stud - $65

And today is only the 19th. Good thing the car has been paid off for years.

We've all been through similar times, it sucks fut it's part of owning an "old" car. All old cars go through a slew of repairs all right after another. IMO, the water pump issues you had were part repair costs and part learning experience. Next time you'll know what to look for so it'll be cheaper next time.

Well I figure mine cost me >$2/mile to drive these past 8 months

Thank goodness it's parked for the winter

If I drove it 12 months a year I'd go broke

I could also add this is the third front hub assembly I have put into this car in the past 3.5 years. On the other hand, those three hubs, at $65 each, add up to less than one monthly payment for the wife's car. So I guess I'm not doing too badly.

It just sucks when a whole slew of things go kablooie in short order like this.

Though one should ask why on earth does this surprise me; after all my previous car was a 78 mustang

thats nothing in the long run. add all those repairs up and any others you've done on the car throughout the year and then divide that by 11 and that will tell you how much your car payment would be. it will put things into perspective.

Heh, I've spent around 3k dollars in the last 3 months on my car (see signature...) and still need/want about 1500 more for it in the next month or so...

and I've got plans so spend an additional 7-8k on it over the up coming summer...

It could always be alot worse

When was the last time you had to put money into it other then this month? $600 is not bad considering it paid off and you have no monthly payment.

Step 1: Go to website that has text you want.
Step 2: Ctrl-C
Step 3: Switch to StangNet.
Step 4: Ctrl-V

In other words, I copied and pasted all that from a website. Felt like dropping it all here rather than posting the link.

I know the feeling. I've driven mine maybe twice this year. Hell, I've been searching for the stupid Vortech water pump pulley, so I can finish my supercharger install. It's been sitting since August, or September waiting on one part that no one has in stock and no one knows when exactly they're going to get it from Vortech. I should call up Vortech and bitch, since they won't e-mail me back. One of these days, I'm going to say f-it and have my brother make me one, since he has a full machine shop, at his disposal. I'd just need to buy the stock to make it, but that's probably more expensive than the $82 that Summit Racing wants for it.

/rant off.
