I think something is seriously wrong with my car (timing related)

I wanted to check my timing yesterday. I pulled the spout and go to start the car, and it wouldn't start! I put the spout in and bam it fires right up. With the car running, I pulled the spout out and the car died.

What could cause this problem? I've adjusted my timing many times on a '91 LX I had and never had one issue.

Thanks in advance for any help. :nice:

mine will run with the spout out, maybe it is set way too low, so that when you pull the spout and the computer isn't advancing it anymore the timing is too far reatarded to run. Other than that.......maybe a good tune up etc.

Thank you for your input... That is what a friend of mine suggested also. The car was recently tuned up (plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter), so I don't think it's that.

I guess the only way to fix it is to bump the motor to top dead center, put the distributor at 12 o'clock and start from scratch?
