Alright, I went out to Pacific Raceways last night. This is my second time out there in the Mustang. The first time, the car was completely stock and I ran 14.7 in the 1/4 mile. Well now that I have added a K&N air filter and my new exhaust....I decided I would go racing to see how much faster the car is. Here's how the runs broke down:

1st 15.6
2nd 15.8
3rd 15.4
4th 15.187
5th 15.000
6th 16.89

I didn't even get into the 14's with modifications...am I missing something here. I heard a couple guys tell me that I might need a new ECU, because my car kept bogging down when I went to shift to 2nd gear. Does anyone have any suggestions, besides get rid of the car!!!

Nope.

Well actually. What did you do to your exhaust? Cat-back? O/R H-pipe? Did you reset your ecu?

What about a tune-up?

Did you gunk up your throttle body, et al, with too much oil in your K&N?

Just some thoughts. Good luck!

There were not too many cars there yesterday at PR. How many time between those last few runs ? The engine is getting real hot from those back to back runs, also the weather is really warm yesterday, that sure don't help with making power. How was the air temp back when you get that 14 sec pass ? And what type of exhaust mod did you done to your car ? ( I also have a auto and lost a bunch of bottom end torques when I bolted on a offroad pipe, now I have a highflow cat X-pipe and I am happy). It will help everyone if we all have more info on your mods.
BTW there is so much Honda and Turbo Neon out there, you would think it is the battle of the imports.lol

Thanks for all the tips guys!!

The reason, I don't want to mention the type of exhaust yet, is due to peoples opinions on it. I want to prove a buddy wrong and I don't want to hear crap from others about the system. I'm damn close to proving him wrong (by .3 seconds).

Darkness: I think you might be right on cleaning the MAF, I keep meaning to do that and still haven't.

Also, would about 250 pounds of boxes in the trunk of the car matter?? I still have boxes in the trunk leftover from moving. Also, a bunch of mopar parts in the trunk from my Jeep.

Timeonly: Yeah, there was a crap load of turbo Neons. A couple of the SRT-4's hit low 15's....I had to laugh!! Even though, they would spank me. When I ran the 14.7 it was probably High 70's low 80's. It was like opening weekend or somewhere near there. My car is a manual!!

Rule of thumb is a 0.10sec per every 100lbs taken from the car, so you might have a good .25 right there.

Thanks Tyler for the article....I don't have my slips with me, I will post up the times tonight when I get home. My dumba$$ left the time slips AND my wallet in the Mustang...then I parked it in the Garage and my girlfriend parked behind me and blocked me in....so I had to take the Jeep this morning. I went to get coffee this morning and I had no money or wallet to pay for the coffee with. Yeah, that really sucked!! :nonono: :bang:

what?!

hehehe

side exhaust does make you slower... just in case you would like to know... however the spintech should make you a bit faster than the the magnaflow made me...

weird... ah well :) wanna race now?!

I was there last night. Please describe your car. We need more info from you, especially 60ft times and trap speeds for both days at the track. The heat does have an impact on performance but not as much as your are describing. I am assuming that your timing and fuel pressure have not changed. Each of these variable could have a big impact on performance.

I remember you, if you were in the convert. You had side exhuast. I was walking by and you asked me what my car was running. I'm sorry I was so brief, I was in a bit of a hurry at that moment. The new filter won't help you unless your old one badly needed replacing and I doubt you changed your timing since you have a cammer engine. Just give us those timeslip numbers as requested above.

well kev, I think that your exhaust is messin with ya. check your plug wires, get some fresh plugs, not platinum. and yes, the **** in the trunk will make a big difference. pop your hood for a while between runs and let her idle, to pump the coolant and keep the fan on. If I were you, I'd advance the ignition timing and retard the cam timing, that might like your exhaust a little better.

but the best advice...

Alright as promised here are some of the slips...the rest are out in the car. If you know me I am fat and lazy, so that is not possible to walk out to the car right now. Anyways, heres just a couple of the slips:

R/T .580 .588 .668
60' 2.506 2.528 2.458
1/4 15.837 15.435 15.222
MPH 90.42 90.53 92.64

Those are the only three I have with me right now.

Gerard, I think you might be on to something...........STICKERS!!!!! :nice:

I remembered a while back one of the Mustang magazine did a tech things on SVO sidepipes and it hurt the power outputs on that test car.
I am checking into a Spin-tech side exhaust right now, can't make up my mind because of the noise factor.
I remember seeing your car from the grandstand, sorry we ( fullfoxbody ) did not stop to said "Hi",it was too warm that day to walk around.
