You guys can literaly tell when something is wrong with your car before it even does anything bad. Well at least I did. I felt something wrong. As I was stopped at a red light idling fine, suddenly it just died. It started right back up. Then as I was driving to work it would stumble and ride like crap. Not only that, but I started hearing a scrape in the rear end. The brake pads are fine. I also hear a "knock" out back. I just had it checked today and everything seems strong, suspension wise. Do you guys think my differential is about to go and take a chit? I pushed the car from side to side from the rear fender and I could hear a knock. WTF is going on?

if u can hear a knock when pushing the body side to side i would say its not in the diff, unless something broke in half in there.

a buddy once broke some teeth off his ring...it made all kinds of racket. It may be the trac-loc showing how loose it is...that or bushings on the control arms.

for the piece of mind buy a rear cover gasket and some fluid, pop it off and take a look, but look at the control arms first as it is just alittle cleaner to look at them first

I had knock and I stepped on it in first and exploded my differential. I'd take the diff cover off and take a look. Had I looked I probably could have saved my 4.10 gears

well if you think it may be your differential check your fluid for any small peices of metal, instead of takeing the whole back off and replacing all the fluid

best way to check will be to realy get in there and look though...plus its like a 2$ gasket and new fluid is always a good idea.

remember there is no drain plug on the stock rear cover so even getting something in there is going to be pain, plus your only going to be able to check a very small area for anything.

I'll take the cover off. I have no idea what I'll be looking for besides metal shavings but I'll give it a shot. My control arms are only 6-8 months old and I looked at them and they look pretty clean.
