No....not the kind that you paint on but the kits you can install to blow fire out of your exhuast pipes...I watched Miami Vice (the movie) and the scene with the blue flames coming out of the Ferrari is kind of fantastic. Anyone know of anything available for this ridiculous impulse of mine?

In the old days they used to put spark plugs near the end of the tailpipes, but with cats and ecu's I doubt there would be enough unburnt fuel to do so. I suppose you could rig up injectors and plugs but I'd be afraid of burning my car to the ground. As for a kit I couldn't tell you though.

Get an o/r pipe and you should have no trouble. I'm still contemplating this for mine, but I'm scared of melting my side skirts. My dad's dunebuggy has flamethrowers, and they're so much fun.

They are illegal just so you know.

My neighbor, who is a mechanic, told me that those kits are bad news. According to him, a lot of the kits make one of the cylinders misfire to supply the excess fuel in the exhaust.

yes, many kits simply cut the spark to a few cylinders, casuing the unburnt fuel to make its way through the exhaust. a spark plug is typically used to ignite the fuel at the outlet.

the problem with this style of kit is that the fuel washed the lubrication from your cylinder walls. no lube = premature engine failures.

Just don't be an ass. if you're not driving around town using them, or doing it too close to stuff, I don't see the big deal. The highlight of my attendance at car shows when I was young was the flame contests.

The big deal is, they are dangerous and illegal for a reason, as several have already said. However, I guess some folks have to learn the hard way...... They look cool, but the potential for real headaches is large.

BTW, there is a propane fueled flame thrower kit that does not wash the oil from your cylinders.

it does not produce the long orange flames like gasoline, but it does throw a shorter blue flame, like a blow torch.

Maybe a case of Rosarita refrieds, a six-pack of Coke, and some jumping jacks....... Actually, I would think if it was strictly for show, you could rig up something better than using unburned fuel from your exhaust pipe. Stunt folks have been setting up stuff like that for the movies for years...... The temptation to show it off one night in a parking lot, combined with Murphy's Law, would probably result in some issues. I remember some years back a friend of mine had a Mazda with a rotary engine. For some reason it was pumping a lot of unburned fuel down the exhaust pipe. It would routinely blast out shotgun sounding explosions from the tail pipe. One day his cat exploded. I'm guessing it got too hot and trapped some of the gasses. Sounded cool though.
