I want my front end to lift on launch.

As the title says, I want to be able to lift the front tires when I launch. I've got the power, what's the cheapest way to get it to the ground? I'm thinking 90/10's, 3.73's, ET Streets, and some LCA's.

This question was just in a Summit Magazine column a couple months ago. The question was that the customer wanted his wheels to pop up enough to crush a bottle of soda. The Summit tech said that a car would need about 500 horse power to pop the front wheels that much. While your combo is stout as hell, I don't think your pushing 500 horse power. The summit column recommended a shot of NOS to get you there cheap.

My stock 03 GT will pull one Wheel 3-4 inches.. its bone stock with stock gears just some ET Drags and a 6k clutch drop... so some good tires and the 3.73's and great track prep....

You got some pics of that? Not to be a dick, but 265 horse and 302 trq translates into roughly 220 horse and 251 trq assuming the 17 percent drivetrain loss via manual transmission. Even with gears and slicks I find it hard to believe you can pull a wheel 4 inches off the ground.

Possibly 14" front drag springs, adjustable struts, adjustable UCA, LCA's, adjustable rear shocks, skinnies up front, subframes, ET drags. If you can get it to hook with a high RPM dump, the front should come up. I hope your chassis is reinforced, because if not it will be flexing. I was shocked lately by my dad's car. He had it supported on jackstands right behind the front wheels as we were installing a tubular K member, a arms, coil overs, etc and when we went to put the K member in it didn't fit. Well, on a whim I put a jack under the core support below the rad and the front end came up like 2" and that was just from the weight of the rad, fenders, core support, etc. The engine was supported from overhead so there was NO added weight from it. That really opened my eyes up to see how much stress was put on the body when the wheels are off the ground.

Skinny up front are a must. You can pick up a skinny rim with one finger and sling it across the room, they are that light.

Yeah I would like to see a picture of that. That's really hard to believe. I am not being a dick either but I will have to say until I see some proof.

whoa now, lets not get too out of hand here. ive driven MANY newer GTs and there is no way in hell it can pull the tires off the ground 3-4 inches. maybe the front of the car lifted a little and felt like the tires left, but the wheels...

I did see a guy in the street racing article in MM&FF that was getting his front wheels off the ground in a 03 Cobra with just slicksin the rear and skinny's up front. Not sure what he had done to it but I know he still had the IRS. But a stock gt I personally dont believe it. Let's see some footage!!!

if there is enough wieght taken off the front and a good suspension then u can get maybe and 1-3 inches off the ground depending on the launch, but no way is a astock 03 GT lifting the tires off the ground, i test drove one and wasn't impressed at all.

I know magazines like to fudge the articles sometimes, but I've seen a few pics in there of 13 second foxes lifting the fronts. Never have I seen it 1st hand though.

I didn't say tires i said Tire! All the pictures i have off it don't show the tire off but I got an entire crowd of people that seen it... Happened at a local event in May Call Smackdown we rent the track. (BTW it don't matter if people believe me)

what do you trap in the 1/4?

i would look at 3.90s some 70/30s will work fine with some 175-200 pound 14 inch coilovers and remove the sway bar. take some weight off the front... as much as you can, smog bumper support anything you dont use... A/c if you are up north. BATTERY relocate!

Sorscode, not to flame but I think your sources of what your car is doing are just exagerrating. no way in hell is that possible... if you had suspension 4.80 gears and skinnies then maybe you could pull a little

but no way n hell in a stock car

or are you saying it pulls the "well" as in the fender gap is 4 inches?

Thanks for the responses guys! Black95GTS you're right I'm definitely not near 500 hp, but I should be fairly close once I install a nitrous kit. SorsCode I also find it kind of difficult to believe that your stock car with so few mods can lift the front wheels. Although don't doubt him too much guys, in a MM&FF not too long ago there was a modular shootout or something that they covered. There was a guy running an almost stock motored 02 or 03 GT. All he had was some thoughtful suspension mods and a stronger rearend. I believe he was running mid 12's but they showed a picture of his car launching; his front tires were a good 5 inches off the ground.

Thanks Killercanary and 95snoozer, how streetable would either of your suggestions be? Yes my chassis will be reinforced with subframes and a 4 or 5 point cage. My A/C is coming out just after I make a drive from Seattle to Phoenix in a couple weeks, but I want it for that long drive. Smog pump can finally come out because I just installed a new off-road X-pipe. I forgot about battery relocation thanks for reminding me.

And something I probably should have asked initially... is it even benificial for your launch to have your wheels come up off the ground? Would it improve or hurt your 60'?

the coilovers will be streetable, I am about to put on my 175s form X2C

90/10s wont be as streetable as the 70/30s

a good rear with a window switch and leaving on the spray should yank the wheels up just fine. you'll be making 500 rwtq then.

a wheel stand will be bad for parts and et but the wheels will yank up just showing the sudden hit of power and wont hurt your times.

a tubular K will be great for yanking the wheels.

your 3.73s will work well for your motor on the bottle

no way a 03 gt is pulling front wheel hops....my cobra has 423 and w/ drag radials it still doesnt...u need skinnys....weight out of the front and into the back...... not trying to be a dick either but lets not bull s h i t here now...

Get the 5 point cage. In the eyes of the NHRA, the 4 point cage is just for looks. If you plan on running sanctioned races and you are running below 12 seconds (Which you definately will be with that combo on juice!) you will need at least a 5 point cage.

He is probably very close to pulling the front tires up. It doesn't take much. A steep gear and slicks will do the trick with a properly tuned chassis. I'm not saying he can stand the car on it's back bumper, but it can probably pull the front end up an inch or so.

The guy from Summit didn't know what he is talking about.

90/10's up front, slicks, and a 3.73 will probably get the front end up in the air about 3-4 inches. Lightweight skinnies, and 50/50's out back with adjustable upper and lower control arms could hike the car up about a foot or so when the chassis is tuned properly (pinion angle and zero suspension preload).

What happens when you are holding a handle to a wagon and all of a sudden, you rip it foward? The front end comes up. It's physics; a bit oversimplificated, but it's physics.
