i'm really goofy about what looks good on fox body's. i too like the pony rims and even the turbines, i dont know why but 90 percent of the rims i see on cars in general i hate......their just so slicy and just i dunno.......especially on older cars and trucks, some of them ar just goddy, like jewlery, not to mention pricey as hell. maybe a ferrari or lamborgini for some rims but not mustangs.
as for making it stand out, the ones i always notice the most are the ones that are really clean, like the little things. for example, that trim around the 1/4 windows can get dull as with the rest of the trim......fortunatly mine's all like matte-semi flat colored so it's easy to touch up and that makes a big diff. the other thing silly as it sounds that really makes cars stand out next to the paint is the windows. lotsa window space on hatch's and if their tinted out with maybe certain stickers look pretty cool. then again i actually like the cheesy cheese grater gt tail lights too, just cuz i think they look cool at nite.
the little deatils though like i said make a huge difference.......darker colored cars look kinda cool with ultra clear head lights and lighter colored cars look kinda cool with smoked headlights.......stuff like that. plus all the different types of badges you can get nowdays and for cheap......

This ****in thread is killing me. Half you guys say you hate Cobra R wheels and go drag stlye looks. The other half say you hate cars with body kits because they look like rice. But then you turn around and say you think the Saleen's are the best looking Fox's ever made. Hey did you ever think that the Fox Saleens were pure rice with the exception of the anniversary editions. I know I'm gonna start something here, but think about it: what power mods do they have from '84-'93? Most of them have body kits and stickers. They did come with handling packages, but thats about it. Look at the Saleen wing, by todays standards it's hardly noticeable, but come on it's huge. I have one too, but I'm not bashing cars with body kits calling them rice.

notches look like **** with any bodykit and/or wing. hell i dont even think most hatches look good with body kits, and most wings are ricey to me. i like the lx spoiler, just because the hatches dont look good without one and the lx flows good with the car. of course im all for speed and not very much into looks, which is why my car looks like **** right now. but all im going to do is paint it back to black and then throw on some weld prostars (15x10 and 15x3.5) because my 14x6 rims arent going to cut it. looking good < going fast. but some nice wheels and a good paint job while going fast is nice, but ugly body kits and wings can really ruin a car, even if its fast. im done rambling...

First off, i think its just that we all have different opinions here, and we're just expressing them. second, im all for the stock thing, unless its about saleens, then im all for them. and yeah the saleens have body kits, but the coolest thing about them back then was those wings and skirts and such were all designed with racing and performace in mind. they werent just for looks, they helped the car perform. i only think its rice when it doesnt serve a reasonable prupose. i dont think your saleen wing is rice, cause they were built for fox mustans to have alot of read downforce, nothing wrong with that. but most of those aluminum pieces of sh** dont do anything. and as far as performance goes, that was like the best you could get back in the 80's and early 90's. top quality, much like todays SVT or even todays saleen. interiors too, while lx's and gts had horrible seats, the saleen had wonderfully sculpted FloFit buckets, real nice ones. and in most cases they were lighter then stock hatchs so they were a little faster that way too. but a saleens main purpose was handling, where in 1986 it pulled an .88 later g's. that was corvette performance back then. not to mention the brakes were 4 wheel disc for superiour stoping power. the interior had all kinds of improvments also, including a pioneer stereo system, that was great for the time. and name another car of that time period that came with an optional escort radar detector? i cant think of any. now up untill 89, you are right, no new power over stock, but in 89 that all changed. the SSC was born, and by god it was the sweetest thing to ever hit the streets. its the reason i bought my first mustang. 292 american muscle. i dont know about you, but my 2003 GT only has 260, and thats a good 15 years later. the SSC even had suspension upgrades to the already perfect setup of the standard saleen! and after that a supercharger was an option on the saleens, known as the saleen SC's. in 1990 putting out 305 horsepower and 325 footpounds. thats some serious power in 1990. so did they have stickers? yeah, but they were going for a racey look, not a ricey one. they had saleen decals on the racing models, why not the production ones? and they were pretty much the cars used in various racing events, with many of the street goodies, like a radio and back seat.(racing models were stripped of course). so i am not arguing with you, but i just wanted to put a few things straight there. that these were not just some ricey mustangs with stickers and wing. but alot more. so if anyone reads this thank you for your time
man i feel alot better now

The simple clean look is cheaper, looks more like the original way the car was made, sleeper, and its cheaper.

If my car were red, I'd put on white Cobra R's. Nice clean look.

Put on what you think looks best. It's your car. Enjoy it and have fun. That's what is important.

Does it look something like this?

My paint isn't the greatest, but when I get it repainted down the road I'll probably just go with either the stock Bright Red, or maybe the new Torch Red like the Mach's. Probably a Saleen wing then, and maybe 17's when I someday go five-lug, but as it is now I love the stock look.

I knew a response like this was coming. While I was going to reply to this, BrutalStang has already given a perfect explanation of why him and I think the way we do. And calling a Saleen Mustang rice is just foolish. All I was saying was that I like the way they look and it came from the factory (even if it was an aftermarket factory) that way. Would you call a GT rice when compared to an LX? Of course not. But according to your response it is. It's just a matter of taste. Personally I don't like exterior mods. Not even clear corners. However, I like the looks of a Saleen. I probably would never spend the money to convert one of my cars to one though because I would just assume to spend the money on something else.

While many that post here are not, I am old enough to remember when these cars, even the four eyes, were new. I followed the changes that owners made to these cars over the years. At first, changes were small for the most part. LX tailights on GTs (a good mod in my opinion), GTO headlight covers, Saleen wings, and a very limited selection of wheels. Some of these mods didn't even look good. Then, in the late 90's, all these body kits started coming out for these cars. Wheel selection also grew. At this point, exterior mods started to get gaudy.

I was never into that. I would just assume to keep the car stock on the exterior. Some don't think that way and that's fine. The most important thing to realize is that if it's your car you should do whatever you want to do to it! That's why I don't like seeing the threads in Talk asking about how others will like exterior mods that the person starting the thread plans on performing. My car still has the original paint and I don't care! Someone else may have a crazy paint job that others don't like and they shouldn't care either! That's just my opinion. And that's what these boards are all about.
