My friend just got a new car. A 2000 2.0 RS with a wrx engine swap. The previous owner autocrossed in it. It has over 10k in modifications, mostly suspension. It puts 220hp to all 4 wheels.

Well he took me for a ride in it this Friday after school, and I have to tell you, was I truely impressed. This thing really pushed me back into my seat, and he was barely on it. This thing felt like it was glued to the road.

So I have decided to sell my car in a couple years, and buy an 05 Sti. I know most of you won't agree with this, but in my opinion, nothing beats AWD. We get a reasonable amount of snow here in Northern VA, and AWD in the snow would just be a blast. I was originally planning on getting an 04 Cobra later on, RWD just isn't practical to have as a daily driver in these parts.

As you can tell, I have decided to get a white one. Take a look at the last 2 pics above. A front lip, and springs, and you have yourself one bad son of a biotch. Those rims come stock.

RWD can hook as well as AWD can with some modifications. They aren't bad cars but have fun spending $$$ for getting over 300hp.

Yeah I know. But hp isn't my goal. It's fast enough as it is.

im doing the same but keeping my stang along with the new car. I might opt for an evo though over an sti. But hey, i really feel yea with the awd in the winter snow. I love wrx's, very cool stuff. My 95 will be kept for as long as it takes to get another stang though. love em both

Also, for a LONG Azz time, I was seriously thinking of getting an 04 Cobra because with a few mods it could easily reach more than 400rwhp. Then I thought about it, what would I do with all that power? I'd probably end up dead. It's not like I'd take it to the track or anything.

I also thought about reliability. Most of you will kill me for this, but you really can't compair Japanese with American.

OMFG please leave this damn forum. That dumb ass idea started in like 1976 when american cars did suck. Open ur eyes, my moms and sisters Hondas have been in the shop more times than my dads Ford Mini Vam, 2002 GT, and Chevy S-10 and my grandpas buick rendezvous and 2003 Tbird combined. If you still think that in this day and age japanese cars are more reliable you need a reality check.
Edit: it bleep out *** which i thought was interesting. Also my friend had a sentra which broke down ever other week, along with my girls 2003 Corolla S which rattles like a ****in mexican moracca pure crap.

Chill bro.

It was just my opinion, and I know you are entitled to your own opinion. I don't want this thread to become gay.

Sti's are amazing. They are the perfect package of speed, braking and handling. Low 13's out of the box... Not a bad choice at all, I have considered WRX's as well due to the snow here!

pretty sure the sti's have some sort of air suspension so installing coil overs will break my bank. i work with a dude who has a wrx and he's already put 2 headgaskets and a diff in at 42k, you won't have those kind of issues with a cobra. awd is pretty cool just check out hpa motorsports website and watch an awd launch--very cool.

Yeah me neither. Im sorry that i came across as being heated. I just think that the import being more reliable thing, is so outdated.

In my opinion AWD and reliability do go well together no matter who makes it.

one of my freinds has a stock wrx. he has 20k and is on his 3rd transmission.
another has a sti with a couple bolts ons. he has issues though. if he launches and the tires hook too much, he fries the clutch.

somethin else to think about:

i live in New York. i drove my car last winter but for this winter i had a free beater so i just switched plates and insurance over to it for the 5 montchs the stang was off the road.

Dude, its true.

GM's are total CRAP, rated JUNK, along with FORD's.

TAKE A GOOD LOOK AROUND AND NOTICE THAT ALMOST EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD HAS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR CAR!

Make a tally and ADD UP the MY CAR DOESNT RUN/BROKEN vs the IM SO HAPPY WITH MY CAR threads.

MY CAR DOESNT RUN/BROKEN will win hands down. LOL READ THE 2005 FORUMS! ITS INSANE!

HOW many members are on this site alone?

Lets stroll into the EXPLORERS forum and add theirs in as well.

blah... its not outdated. Until they figure out that they can actually SAVE MONEY by doing things right, then they will be rated at a higher quality other than JUNK.

Personally I love my 'stangs... but my HONDA with 115,000 on the clock runs with ZERO PROBLEMS and has yet to be in a shop for anything other than the routine shocks/struts/brakes/oil.

Not knocking FORD's or anything as I personally love them, im just expressing my view/facts on things.

Theres a reason for the low 3yr/36000 warranty...

STi's are incredible cars, plain and simple. Subaru isn't your run of the mill Japanese stereotype, those guys have put ridiculous amounts of effort into every later model car they've built, and it shows. Apparently the AWD system is one of the most advanced of it's time, and I'm sure that car will only get better with time.

Comparing and STi and a Mustang are like comparing ice cream to steak....both have good and bad points, but both have completely different purposes for their power output and performance goals..

My opinion is and I'm sure you'll enjoy winter driving once you get it
