im 16 right now and have a 5.0 that will be getting painted in the next few months. after this i going to list it for sale work my ass off and willl be buying a 99+ GT ( a few of my freinds have one im hooked, the ride in them is great compared to the fox and i want a damn 5 speed )

looking to spend around 7k, ive found alot of different 4.6 GT's for around 7K and some for around 6500-7000 seems to be the norm for around 100,000 miles.

so what do you guys think about that?

im not to keen on the new edge stangs and 7k seems like a good deal for one. what are common problems that i will need to look for.

Better bang/buck is a 96-98 cobra, they can be had for 8k-9k. You'll actually save (or be the same) on insurance because its an older car. They also respond to bolton mods way better. If you just HAVE to have a new edge body style stang, save your pennies and go for a 99-01 cobra.

i wish, my parents are not even happy with me having a 88 5.0 mustang...a cobra no chance in hell till im 18. ( ive been told this many times )

basically id like a 99+ and it would stay manily stock for a while besides geares, exhasut and a few simple bolt ons...and im pretty sure with the title saying COBRA it would be more my 5.0 runs me 110 a month.

Biggest thing I can say to look out for is the plastic coolant crossover part of the intake on the earlier new edge stangs. From what I understand, they are ticking time bombs. Not that they are terribly expensive to replace, just that they will go out on you. Later models came with the aluminum crossover.

I'd say $6500 to $7500 is fair depending on the condition for an earlier new edge. I got my '99 with 93k miles for $6500 with almost all the bolt ons plus a few cosmetic mods. Granted it did need some TLC to get it back on the road. Fortunately, it came with an '03 engine so I didn't have to worry about the plastic crossover on the intake.

yeah i had to replace both of theres for them only takes me about 40 mins to do now taking my time lol.

also from what i hear people with 4.6's say "dont fear the gear" how do 4.10's in the 4.6's behave?

i saw yours was just in a accident...id be so pissed...( love the color on it )

I can't speak for the 4.10's. But I do have 3.73's with a 5 speed and I can't imagine going with any steeper of a gear. It seems I'm constantly rowing through the gears as it is! Most people say 3.73's are better suited for 5spds and 4.10's are good on autos. However, there are plenty of people who will say that 4.10's are the way to go on a 5spd also. I think it boils down to personal preference.

try and pick up an 01 get, the later ones, the intake manifold/transmission were changed mid year i believe to correct the problems they had. They look a lil better too than the 99 and 00 models, just lil things like headlights and hood, then the interior, of where the stereo sits is different. Other than that, not too much of a difference.

Insurance will be lower. Insurance on my 04 GT is WAY higher than I was quoted for 96-98 cobras - the older the vehicle the cheaper the insurance, and both are the same displacement so most insurers don't know the difference... Plus you're insuring a used cars current value, not it's original value. IMO you can snag a 96-98 cobra that is cleaner than any 99+ GT you would find in that price range.

its 88 a month right now for my 88 5.0. i figure around 110 or so for a 99 GT

im looking for a 99 or 00 for insurance reasons,

i dont really care the miles..just nonthing more then 120k and nonthing that has ben beat its whole life...cheaper the better.

i bought my 98 for only 3k with 94k on it, and it only need front control arm bushings, there are so many mustangs for sale around my area you can pick them up pretty cheap
