I wish Ford would make a roadster!

before the Sky/Solstice hit the show rooms I had very high hopes for them (GM's legendary quality not withstanding ) but after seeing how big they are in person, and seeing the actual road tests of them I was terribly disappointed...

if you like them good for you...I just can't see were it makes any kind of sense for Ford to build something like that when they have that market covered with the Mustang and the MX-5...

now if you'd like to see a re-bodied MX-5 in the Ford-Lincoln-Mercury line up I could see that being fun

anyone see the Dodge Deamon concept? Little shorter then the Miata, little wider.

And the new SRT-4 motor will drop into it(300hp 265tq turbo i4) but comes with 172hp N/A 4 banger.

dude the GXP and redline versions are fuggin nuts. they're like mini-vettes.

no contest what so ever. the redline and GXP outperforms the GT vert in every way so the V6 just ain't gonna cut it. better looks, similar power to weight, handling, price, everything.

the point is there is a lot more to a dedicated roadster than lopping the top off a car.

Thought about the MX-5, but I'd prefer to buy something made here. Even though Ford own's Mazda, the car is still built in Japan I believe.

i understand your patriotism but no one country makes one car anymore. well, asside from ferrari and bmw, i think. just about every body else is dipping in parts bins around the world. this includes ford. a mazda is a ford, even if theplants are in different places ford still gets the money so you're still supporting ford. ford might build an an underpowered miata like car to compete with the current roadster revolution (thats a huge maybe, though since it has never really made a roadster).

even honda and toyota build and design amost of their american cars here because people prefer that. the mazda3 is pretty much a nicer focus for the same dollar.

i guess my point is that people shouldn't be fooled by badges anymore thinking they have some kind of national loyalty. wanna support the american economy 100%? buy a used car its what i do

Yeah I have seen prices of each. That is because dealer order them with every single option and even still they are 26-27K. The fact remains you can order a Solstice for 21 and change but it would cost you at least 3K more for a V6 vert.

I think it wouldnt make sense because they are a low volume car and it wouldnt be worth the resources.

There are already 3 cars in that segment that makes up maybe 75,000 cars a year at most. So Ford could sell 20,000 at most, like I said wouldnt be worth it especially when you are competing with your own Miata that has a name behind it and a following.

I agree that all the car companies are getting parts from around the world. However, when you buy a Ford you are employing significantly more American workers than when you buy anything else. That's taking into account all the jobs tied to that car...assembly, parts suppliers, dealers, etc.

The last number I heard was something like 100 American jobs per vehicle vs 53 jobs per vehicle with an import.

here's the problem with that. lets say you always buy american. you buy ford vehicles everytime you get anything for any reason even if there is a much better vehicle for the same buck by a foreign company. thats cool, have fun, but when millions of people do this over time the company becomes deluded into thinking that its products are superior to the other guy and since it never has to win back customer appreciation they just fall farther and farther behind in terms of producing good vehicles.

if i were to get a brand new car right now it'd prolly be a brand new mustang GT because invoice on those suckers is 23K and its just a well built car. its a good car for a good price. ford wins but lets say they still had the 260hp 4.6 in it. fail. it just wouldn't be worth it when i could pick up one of the many GTO's they can't give away right now.

my point is that american cars have been underpowered and lower quality BECAUSE people just got em for the sake of being american instead of forcing the big 3 to make their products better.

the consumer shouldn't lower their standards, the market should reflect that, its why capitalism is so great.
