iac valve

i have a 1992 lx 5.0 with 59,000 original miles, its in exelent condition. it has been idling a little rough and it whistles. i was told that it may be the idle control valve. it was idling around 500rpm or so. the car has bolt ons but no heads, cams, etc just exhaust etc. any help would be appriciated thanks.

Simply start by removing it, and cleaning it out with carb cleaner.
I'd also check the tps voltage.

I dont like to clean IAC's unless I'm willing to replace them. The harshest solvent I'll use on them is WD-40.

Is the whistling coming from the IAC itself?

Are there any vac lines that are cracked or loose?

Did you pull codes yet?

it only whistles when im driving, its really noticable around 35 or 40 mph.

The first two posts contain all the updates to the fixes. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.

An IAC valve will only whistle at idle. Did you install an aftermarket throttle body? Sometimes they will whistle under part throttle.
