The damage has been done. My bro has a 01 auto GT and he spun it into a curb hitting his drivers side rear rim( bent it a bit). I never have seen this before but the brake rotor was snapped in 2 peices, donut style. $28 and it was replaced. Also since he drove it after, the outer piece ground the ABS teeth ring down a bit and now the ABS light is on. On closer inspection, the new rotor wobbles side to side causing pressure on the brake calliper. Other side does it too, just a bit less. Bent Axle.... ugh first thought was $1000+ of damage

Im thinking that it may just be the inards of the axle assambly itself, i.e. the axleshafts. Simple enough to replace. Maybe the differential gearing is messed up too. Should I start replacing things or best just to fork over dough and have a shop do their wonders? Would insurance cover this?
There has to be people who experienced this. Any thoughts?

Why wouldn't insurance cover it? It is a single-vehicle collision that occurred on the roadway and would fall within the definition for coverage under the policy--if he does have collision coverage. Although, if insurance is involved, expect rates to go up.

Yeah. My rates went up when I reported the hit with the barrier. I would take it apart and check things out yourself. Maybe it won't be too bad and it'll be cheaper then paying the higher premiums.

what fun. Collision is $500 deductable + the increase in premiums, how much ever that would be. Guess it depends on what bro wants to do seeing he's usually broke. Just got a foot of snow here so that is really deturing me from the DIY but who knows.
Starting to look at pricing the parts. 50restro is a nice site, ordered from them before, thanks. Just axleshafts or the assembly itself?

My buddy was trying to show off one time (2000 GT, bolt-ons and 4.10s) and went sideways and hit a curb. Broke part of the lip of the passenger side rear wheel, and bent the axles and the axle housing. No damage to the gears though. He took the opportunity and upgraded to 31-spline axles. If your bro is gonna have to pay a $500 deductible, I'd say just pay out of pocket. Insurance will want to screw him afterwards.

I hit a curb 3 weeks ago...just got my car back. broke the lip on the rim, bent the axel and the axel housing...its not fun.

same thing just happened to me. Did a 180 into a curb at about 40.

I pretty much trashed all 4 wheels and tires, god knows what I did to front suspension (i at least broke the front right tie rod in half), and I think I bent an axle shaft in the rear. The brakes may be ****ed up too, I heard something in the rear snap while I was moving the car. My coolant bottle also cracked and sprayed hot coolant all over the engine bay. My magnaflow exhaust tips and my rear bumper are trashed too.

I might just get a set of black bullits and replace the rear with a 31 spline setup if I have to tear into it.
