Identifying transmissions

I'm looking at an '01 gt right now to replace my 88 lx and I was wondering how to tell if it has the t-45 or the tremec 3650. Do I look at the tranny from below or should I just check the build date on the VIN? If so, what month did they change over to the tremec? Thanks.

Oh man I don't know the codes, but if your car has:

-Hood scoop
-Tinted headlights

its probally a late 2001 meaning it has the T3650

If it wont go into gear and grinds any time you shift its a 3650...

Check your driver's door for a sticker and look under "TR" for a "K". If you have a "K" then you have the 3650 Transmission.

1999-2000 clear headlights, 2001+ smoked.

Just did some research and found out that when you look at the VIN tag on the driver's side door jamb look for the TR (transmission) section. A 5 in the slot means t-45, a K means 3650. I bought the car and it's lots of fun. :SNSign:

It should have come with the tinted versions.

Could have been an assembly line screw-up and a set of the '00 lights got mixed in with the 01+ smoked versions.


All 2001's received the same headlights that first appeared on the '00 Cobra R
