I have a 1998 mustang gt that I have started to notice a small issue with the idle. While idling the rpm fluctuate from about 750 down to 500 and when it does this it feels like it going to die and has a very slight shake. I know rpm fluctuating is normal, however, it only does this when I have a bunch of electronics on... headlights, heater, radio and fog lights. If I only have a couple of these components on it is perfect and doesn’t do it at all but as soon as I turn another on it starts.

I am wondering what would be a fix for this? Is there a problem with my battery, alternator, IAC? Or is there something I am missing here?

My car is wired for a subwoofer and amp but the dealership had taken those out and left the wiring... could having that still hooked up be a cause?

If anyone has any ideas of what the problem is or have any insight I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

athomps87...I can't say for sure but it sounds like an alternator problem to me. Go have an electrical/charging system check at Sears or Pep Boys or wherever and see what happens. If that alternator is the stock one then it's 13 years old...

I agree with Three50won it sounds like your altenator is going bad. The wiring for the sub & amp would have no effect if there isnt anything for it to power even if it is still hooked up. Go to your nearest autozone and they can test your altenator & batt for you no charge.
