My 93 LX is acting strange It idles at about 1200rpm when i first crank the car and once it's had time to warm up if I stop somewhere and let it idle it runs anywhere from 500-800rpm. Any thoughts?

Once it is warmed up, turn off the car. Then unplug the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve on the throttle body. Start it back up, and adjust the idle to 850-1050 rpms (or your desired idle) with the adjustment screw. Then Shut the car off, and plug the IAC back in and drive. That should do it.

If not post back so we can try to help you some more.

Just raise the idle like I mentioned to get away from the too low idle. Stinger is right, it should start off at 1500 or so, and idle down to 800. But 500 rpm and hunting idle makes me think your base idle is set too low.

the car's running fine now but now that i've adjusted the idle the check engine light is coming on

If you changed the idle speed by turning the throttle set screw but didn't adjust your throttle position sensor (TPS), that's probably why your engine light is coming on. You need to adjust the sensor to return a voltage between 0.8V and 1.0V with the throttle closed.

If you aren't familiar with this procedure I'm sure you can find a write-up on here... if not let us know and I can give you the short version.
