If money wasnt an issue how could I possibly get a 6lug setup working on my car. I have an 8.8 rear with posi. Where would i begin? did ford ever make six lug vehicles that could swap to my car?

Even if it has to be custom, how could it be done?
 
Custom axles and drums/rotor's would eb a start. Or take a stock type axles have them redone for six lug, byy welding up the 5 holes and redrilling for 6 in the bolt pattern you want. And doo the same for the rotos/drums.

Do you think I could safley go the welding/modifying route? I
was thinking about doing something along the lines of what
you were saying, or maybe cut the end off a 6 lug axle, smooth
the 4 lug axle surface (cut the 4 off) and then mate them somehow?

Either way, could this ever be efficient in a 450 hp car?
 
Take a quality axle to a machine/fabricating shop and tell them what you want.
The right place will make you anything you desire, just be prepared to pay.
 
Their dodge viper wheels and tires from an r/t viper 335,35,17 rear, 275,45,17 front. I mounted them on my truck with spacers and by adapting the e-brake cable. I want them on my stang now to set it up for a low profile autocross setup. With some h&r springs it should drop the car pretty close to the tire and keep me planted with the correct alignment and bilsteins.

I have some powerslot rotors that fit the correct bolt pattern.

The chassis to my car is going into my garage this weekend to begin a complete rebuild. Im doing this, has anyone ever seen a 6 lug mustang?

In my opinion you would be time and money ahead using common 5 lugs. They are plenty strong enough, and you could surely find something lighter than the viper wheels. The parts are easy to find and there are plenty of people who can help you with the conversion.

My only suggestion would be to look at Fords heavy duty vehicles (1 tons and bigger). I am pretty sure they will have 6 lugs or better. These vehicles will not be using the 8.8 though. Maybe it would be easier to switch to the heavier 9" rear. Whatever the case, the odds a Ford bolt pattern will be the same as the viper wheels are not in your favor. Why not use the viper rear end?

If you do go with custom fabrication, I would only talk to shops that fabricate axles on a daily basis. Make sure they know that this car will be raced and that strength is the ultimate concern. Having the local welder cut and paste axles together seems pretty dangerous to me.

This is probably the reason why things become tasteless, taking the easier way out and falling in line with what eveyone else does. I want to try something different.

I was looking into this and i'm still trying to figure out how a FRPP aluminum driveshaft could mate to a 9" rear....?

Thanks for the input, I wish you all could see the wheels in person, they are very nice, clean (not to flashy), and the handling with a wheel and tire package like this is something I've never been able to compare any other too. It really does GRIP the road. Not to mention the width on the rear tires is balls to the wall :nice:

anyone else?
 
I wouldn't sweat getting the drive shaft mated to the 9" It has probably even been done before. Any decent driveline shop can do this. Look for 4x4 shops.

I just saw how big the tires are. I have 275s in the back of my GT, and had to use a hammer to get them to fit. The 255s in the front are even worse. Do you plan on swapping out the entire upright in the front? Maybe you could use the truck that the wheels were on as a donor car, or find a wrecked one.

IMO those wheels look like $h!t. Looks like a cheesy cheap american racing wheels that was designed in the 80's. :barf:

It'll stick out like a sore thumb on your car like a baboons red ass.

This thought came to my mind too. Have you thought much about actually physically fitting those huge tires/wheels in the back of your Mustang? Sure it would look cool, no doubt, but you're most likely going to have to mini-tub it and get a fuel cell. Do you know the backspacing on those wheels? Have you checked around for repro viper wheels? There are a few companies that make reproduction wheels in different sizes and different bolt patterns than stock. You could possibly buy those wheels in a 4 or 5 lug pattern that would fit your current rear end and get some 9-10" wide wheels for the back and throw some 275 or 295's on it and call it a day.

j/k, lol, the wheels do look cheezy in that pic but they are NOT cheap, and NOT from the 80's (my pony's are though :shrug: )

I have obviously thought about fitting them in there, common guys, their 335 wide, body/chassis modification is a given.

They have 4.5 back spacing, I have deciding that im just going to modify the whole axle assy. to replicate my old 6 lug truck axles. Then use all the parts I used from that swap (rotors, spacers, etc.) when putting them on the stang.

Maybe I could fit a nice drag radial in there when I'm done too? 10 inch wide 6 lug wheel with some MT's :shrug:
