ignition and light switch

hey guys i was wondering how you remove these, i got the the lights knob out with the little button on the back but how do you remove the rest of it, i need to get it out so i can paint my dash. oh i forgot its a 1967 mustang coupe

Put the key in the ign and a paperclip in the little hole. Twist the key way to the left and the switch will pop out, then you can grab the trim ring and twist it out of the dash.

As for the light switch, I haven't gotten that far myself.

seems like there is a clip or something.on the light switch shaft that has to come off and then it will pull though..i think ..

It is a little spring loaded round push button. You will find it on the flat metal part of the light switch (under the dash.) Unhook your battery, pull the light switch on, depress the button and pull the knob assembly off.

You will need to spin the center of the chrome bezel (the center is a nut) in order to remove the switch. The outside of it is keyed and will not turn.

i have a similar question, not to hijack or anything, but what holds the light switch in place inside of the dash? Mine is just hanging there and i cant figure out what the outside bezel attaches to.

The light switch itself has treads. The bezel is actually 2 pieces. One is the outer ring that says "Lights." The second piece fits inside that outer ring and is actually a hollow chrome bolt that holds both the bezel against the front of the dash, and the switch against the back of the dash. That is all there is to it.

The factory would have used a special notched screwdriver (or notched X driver) but we common people usually can get away with a regular flat blade and some patience.

Hmmm, well mine doesnt have the threads, i even bought a new bezel for the outside of the dash and still cant figure it out, so its just zip tied in there. Can i buy this "threaded part" somewhere? Got any pictures?

Happen to know anything about fixin a wiper switch? I broke mine last year and havent got any answers on how to fix it. The very far back black piece that has the wires attached to it popped off and i dont know to replace or fix it. Confused? lol

thanks for the help guys i got the lights switch out but still cant figure out the ignition switch, i'll keep trying i got the the inside of the switch with the pin and the key but cant figure out where to go from threre.

The outer bezel has 3 notches in it...you can use a flat blade screwdriver to rotate it counter clockwise until it comes off all the way.

The switch is "keyed" into the bezel and held back from the dash by a big spring. To unlock it, reach under the dash and grab the switch. Pull it toward the dash and, with it depressed against the dash, rotate it counter-clockwise, as you are looking at it from in front of the dash.

Pulling is necessary (it will move in maybe 1/4") and rotating it in the correct direction will release the "keyed" parts.

Once loose, slowly drop the assembly down where you can see how it is all mounted. There will be a big spring, and probably a dished spacer. The ignition bezel will now be free too. Actually it is part of the locking mechanism. Don't loose any parts as they are often hard to come by.
