I have an older ignition set up in my V8 ranger. Engine is a 1990 5.0 HO but the dist and box are out of an late 70's early 80's van. I am thinking of relpacing the stock ignition box with an better/hotter spark box. My question is, how hard is it to go to a MSD box? and do I still run the resistor between the coil and the dist? Thanks for the help.

MSD's and similar ignitions are a pretty straight forward install in a Mustang 5.0, so it shouldn't be any different for you. They even sell a harness which I think eliminates the need to splice wires. I'm not really sure what you mean about the resistor, I'll leave that question to one of the electrical guys. If nobody responds, p.m. jhricker (spelling?) or hissin they both know everything electrical.

I was told that sense this is an older ignition set up that I had to run a resistor wire or resistor between the coil and the distributor or I would burn out the electronics in the distributor. It is an electronic ignition out of an older ford van, late 70's early 80's. So do I not need this resistor???
