Is it possible for a faulty ignition coil to cause detonation/pinging?

I guess anything is possible, but I would think a bad coil would be more like missing. I would look elsewhere...

agreed coils are much more drawn to missing...but to answer the question...yes it is POSSIBLE

my understanding it running too hot and running lean are the most common causes for ping...

1 of my coil packs went bad. It's being replaced today. The car was not pinging, but it was misfiring. No sound, it was actually a silence in the exhaust when it missed. Felt like a paint mixer going up hill in high gears
