ok...ive been haveing the peformance dist. firepower kit for about 7 months....about 3 weeks ago my cap and rotor go, i replaced it with an oem and that one lasted for 2 weeks......now today i buy a msd unit and it runs the same!!!!!! now i know the cap n rotor aint the problem.... ive been noticing my coil has been leaking since it has some acid, rusty looking substance around it... im guessing the coil is the problem since the cap n rotor's started going bad when i noticed it leaking...what do you guys think??

The only thing that could be leaking from a coil, is oil. Oil is used to cool the windings on the older style canistor coils, this includes the Accell Super Coil. A demon coil is not oil filled though. They use the same old epoxy that the OEM uses. If anything is leaking from it, that sounds to me like it was to hot( perhaps from an electrical short) and melted the guts out of it. Your best bet is to take the ignition module to have it checked at a parts store. If it is OK then you need to get a new pickup coil for the distributor (inside). One way or another, there is only 1 or more things that could be wrong. The pickup, ignition module, or a wiring issue (loose, corroded). You have the cap, rotor and coil already out of the equation.

That is my guess. How is the car car running? When my PIP sensor in the distributor started going, the engine started missing a little bit, then a little more, and finally one day left me stranded. Look into the dist at the very bottom for little shavings of metal and plastic.

Was the buildup just dirt or was it plastic and metal shavings?

I have to bring this thread back because i'm having similar issues. My car hasn't been running too great. Long story short.....i had plastic and metal shavings in the bottom of my distributor. I blew them out and cleaned off the pickup and the car runs alot better. The problem now is it'll run perfect for a little bit then it'll start missing and popping. It's really weird....it seems temperature related and it does ok until 3k rpm. After that is when all hell breaks loose.

I'm at my wits end with this.....i've replaced everything you can possibly think of except the maf which is a Pro-m 75 bullet. Any thoughts you guys could give would be greatly appreciated.

will the plastic and metal shavings warrant the pickups replaement. Just curious i replaced mine a while back due to poor driveability. And it is kinda sorta acting hte same way again. It also is starting to get shavings in the dist. again.

so i guess i will help revive this thread.

thanks

Is the pickup the thing on the side of the distributor that wires go into. Or is it farther down in the distributor. My car is running like crap. Im getting a code 212 Ignition module circuit failure/spout connection grounded. I replaced the igntion module, the maf, the cap and rotor. Nothing...... It idles horrible and misses at all rpms.
