Ignition problem. Need tips on what to look for?

A few days ago I noticed a ticking noise from under the hood. I popped the hood open and saw an unwanted light show (explained the lack of power and crappy gas mileage) I did some searches on here and corral and most went with the MSD 8.5 super conductors. Made my decision and order a set from Summit racing along with the MSD blaster coil, only because there was a light show coming from their as well(coming from the side only). I replaced them today and the car feels strong again but I just looked under the hood tonight and I still have a light show coming from the coil Its coming from the sides not near the plug wire at all it's just from each sides. The car runs fine it doesn't miss or shutter at all. What should I look at tomorrow? Any help is welcomed.

I'd think there was something wrong with the coil if spark is coming out of the sides of it. Buy a new one.

yep, i agree with Mike. send it back.

ive seen that on CDI ignitions, but not on a dizzy set up. (the epoxy bases on DIS's dont insulate well when long in the tooth).


but it is weird that your old and new coils both do this. can you mount the coil in rubber or insulate it somehow? some cars dont have metal directly touching the coil pack or coil, for that reason (i figure). even some rubber washers might help.

any other ignition upgrades? a CDI box or anything?

NO everything else is stock. I will try to insulate it some how thanks. Anyone else with some input?

Sounds like you have a short to ground. An insulating cover should eliminate the problem.
