I was thinking of changing my current coil (yellow top) and current single vacuum advance dist. I'm using a female type dist cap. I'm thinking this might help in performance. I changed the plugs and wires this weekend still skips a little under load. I have a new 670 Holly im sure it needs a little more adjusting to take care of that. I was hoping i could get some ideas on what other people are using that works good. I have a 1969 Mach 1 390. Thanks for all the input.

Well, considering the stock coil and distributor were used in racing vehicles, I'd suggest finding out what's wrong before spending a bunch of cash.

This is the ignition system is the #28 Dan Gurney Galaxie.

I just bought n new Holly 670 i'm sure it needs a little more adjusting. Yes I'm going to fix the problem before i proceed i was just asking for some thoughts on a better ignition system.

Hi,
As mentioned, tweak what you have. First, check and adjust, as needed, the basic tune up specs. Then, check the OHM readings of your wires. At night, fire up the engine in total darkness and look for any loose "sparkies" leaping to ground. This is a voltage leak. If you own an engine vac gauge (highly recommended), learn how to adjust your carb using it. It can tell you a bunch about your engine's overall health.
Good Luck!

Exactly. I just came at it kinda sideways. It's no secret I have a low opinion of exotic, expensive ignition systems. The above advice is much more useful than my off-hand remark and photo.

If the stone-stock ignition was sufficient to drive such engines as the BOSS 302 and BOSS 429, and yours "skips under a load", you need to look at your carb and ignition adjustments real hard.

I just had to chime in on this....reminds me of when those "Splitfire" spark plugs came out...how everybody at the drag strip just HAD to have them...all you need is enough spark to ignite the combustion chamber...any "extra" spark is just nonsense.
