So need a little help and direction. Lost my set of keys to 1966 Mustang 6 cylinder Sprint.

Locksmith was going to charge $300 to do keys for Ignition/Doors and Trunk. Bought new cylinders for Ignition/Doors/Trunk with one key for all for under $50.

Did the Trunk and doors easy enough, but in trying to remove the old cylinder (obviously didn't have keys so could not turn and push in the little hole) but in trying to encourage removal of the cylinder from the front of the dash appears I have snapped this off the back side.

Looking for some direction

Thank you

Yea, you broke the switch itself. You’re gonna need a new one. One thing that will help, it will not have a key tumbler in it, so your new one will go right in. Here is a video of a 66 ignition switch replacement that might help as well:

And a new ignition switch (I like NPD stuff):

Hey really appreciate the quick response! It looks like the old one is hard wire and the new one comes with spade connectors, correct? So, I can cut close to the old switch and put female spades on there?

While I have you what do you suggest for removing the old weather strip adhesive without ruining the paint as I am looking to do the door seals?

The new one is the same as the original . The only way to get the tumbler out is with the key the bezel will not come off with the tumbler in . You now need the whole Switch ,may as well get the whole locks set with matching keys , be way cheaper than the lock smith

If you get a new switch, it usually does not come with the lock installed. So, install your new lock into it. Sure, you’ll need to install the spade connector, just make sure to use shrink tubing over the wire connectors to ensure the wires stay put.

I have no knowledge of careful weatherstripping removal. I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in. Good luck.

This may help you with the adhesive removal. 3M makes a great product. I used “Goo Gone” when I replaced mine and it worked fine so there are several options.
Just let it soak/sit for a few minutes after you apply and before you wipe so it softens the adhesive. It takes a few applications but will come clean with no damage. Don’t use if it’s a fresh paint job until it’s fully cured.
See attached photos for info…

The problem with removing the old tumbler is you can't with out the key ,you have to have the key to be able to turn the tumbler to the index point to push the release pin . You can't remove the bezel with the tumbler in . I have had to drill several tumblers to to get them out . Drill through the key slot untill you see tiny brass pins and springs come out ,you have to get them all out to be able to turn the tumbler

HAHA Too late and what the reason I posted. Did not drill to deep, but spun the guts which snapped off the back plate. Did drill the trunk first with success so I am a gambling man and tried the ignition.

Thank you!
