OK, so the other day I went to start my car, i put the key in, turn it and here a *snap*, now the key just moves freely in the ignition cylinder. I pulled that out thinking it was the problem, but it was fine. Turns out that the parts inside the steering column broke. Does anyone know where I can get the parts needed to fix the car so i can start it normally again. I had to take the ignition box off the steering column to be able to start the car.

Thanks

I know a couple guys on here have dealt with this and helped others out with very good info (Urban or Chythar or one of those guys). I couldn't find the threads though. Maybe they'll chime in, or if you have a high speed connection (searches are painful on dial-up) you might find the info quicker than I can.

Good luck.

same thing happen to me :fuss:ford

i know i talked to ya on aim but heres what i did for future refrence...

theres two little plastic pieces that slide front to back depending on key position. these connect the ignition tumbler where the key goes to the actuall ignition switch. the little pin that holds the two pieces together decides to come out.

what i did was took all the lower dash pieces off. also removed the trim pieces around the steering colum.

theres two sets of boltsthat hold the steering colum up. i removed the upper two bolts and backed the lower two maybe 3/4 the way out.

this should drop the colum down some to make it easier to work on.

theres two TQ bolts on either side of the colum that i removed and then used the tilt lever to tilt the wheel itself down far enough to get in where the littel pin is and work. i used a screw driver to turn the ignition tumbler to the correct position and then stuck the pin back in.

hope this helps :nice:
