But i need to change my oil. Should I wait till when I am isntalling the oil press gauge? i dont know if you have to drain the oil or what?

Wait. I'm not sure if you have to completely drain your oil for the gauge, but I know at least some will come out when you take the sender out.

A little might come out but the vast majority of it will be in the pan well below the level you are working at. Same with the water temp guage. Just keep a rag around to mop up spillage.

If you have to change the oil, you could always start the engine once the oil sending unit is removed and pump it all out. LOL. Cleanup is a b****, tho.

No oil comes out.

I would wait to change the oil - when I have the system open, I like to change the oil shortly thereafter. An extra week shouldnt matter. You really cant go wrong either way though.

Ok good I didnt feel like doing it this weekend anyway.

I got an autometer cluster bezel im putting them in.

I put my car on ramps to do the install. No oil came out when I removed the sender.


However, if you're installing both the factory & aftermarket senders by using fittings (like Ernan's thread described) .... you will probably have to remove the oil filter (at least I did). You will lose a little bit of oil doing that. I did ..... & just topped it off afterwards. If you are doing this, I'd recommend doing the oil sender while changing the oil so you can kill 2 birds there.


BTW, save yourself the hassle. Go to the parts store & pick up a sender removal tool! Trust me.

Also, FYI, here is a "how-to" on installing both. Ernans way is great ... I used it.

This one is a bit different, though. It's kind of a "remote mount" style .... using the water pump.

It's also a good time to remove and clean the motor ground that's right there - otherwise you'll bury it behind senders and brass.

The remote mounts are sweet! If braided line wasnt so $$, I'd do that!
