The past couple weeks Ive been on ebay numerous times just about to order the GT bumpers for my Redfire V6. Ive bailed out everytime.

I just keep asking myself if this is the route I want to take, or do I want to trade the V6 and step up to a GT.

By the time I do the GT bumper upgrade, dual exhaust, and procharger, Im in it for about the same money as a GT.

Do I want a modded V6, or do I want a bone stock GT?

If I buy the GT, Im getting the exact same car with a V8. The only difference I will accept is a saddle interior vice the charcoal, if the charcoal isnt available.

Ive got cash burning a hole in my pocket, I need to decide something soon. Last time I procastinated I ended up with $4500 in bedroom furniture I didnt want.

Trade for the GT if you can afford it....... then put a SC on that motor :nice:
 
I had the same problem.
So I opted for the MODDED V6.
Reasons:
1. Its my daily/primary car.
2. With that said, I save on gas $/car payments.
3. Insurance for GT was crazy.
4. I would have wanted to MOD the GT the same way I did the V6 but wouldnt be able to afford it then.
5. I'm not a street racer, dragster, or in the need for speed, so the extra 90 HP I would have gotten from a GT really doesnt matter, I've already added a dual exhuast, and am getting an intake, which will get my the power I want, and need.

Do I drive around town looking to race people....no....I do however like my car to look good, anyways, 225 HP (w/MODS) isnt that slow anyway.

Im 45, insurance is dirt cheap for me. I can afford the GT payments. I kicked around doing the bumpers/exhaust/tuning/intake and stopping there. Make it a garage queen that I drive on nice days. Then find a SN95 to flog for a daily driver.

I have no problem parking my baby and useing it for an occasional driver. I bought a Sebring vert in 97 for 27k, when I sold it in 01 it only had 11k on it. Stupid me, for the same $ I could have had a Cobra, but the dealer pissed me off so I bought the Chrysler. Did I ever lose my a$$ on that deal.
 
I know what you're going through. Been there myself with past vehicle purchases. You just have to ask yourself if it's really important to you to have the GT. Do some hard thinking before you sink any more money into your 6. Either way, you'll have a nice car.
 
Resale isnt a concern for me. Cars are my hobby, I just enjoy them. Its my only vice, I dont blow money on anything else. I think since I stuck with the V6 I will pick up another Stang next spring, or maybe a round body falcon. Ive modded several of the 200 sixes, those are alot of fun. You can rev them up to 7k and they run pretty good in the 1/4 if you strip the weight down..

Ahhhhh I have found my soul mate... :nice: :D Ditto Twofocused. My one vice and I'm sticking to it. I buy these things like sweaters. hahahahaha... I opted for the 6 this time around for various personal reasons and feel not one ounce of GT-envyism. As for the $ I spend on him. I'll never see a $ back and could care less. When I am finished riding him hard, used him up and am bored, I will be on to the next one. Longest I have owned one of my Stangs is a little over 2 years. 03 GT I had for less than 18 months. lol :nice:

Simple way to decide which to have. If you value savings over power, go with the V6. If you value power over savings, go GT. Unless there's some V6 pride going on (which I'm not knocking, to each his/her own), you'll get more power and more options with the GT. Screw resale, I test drove both before I got the GT, and it was just more fun. If I were in your shoes, I'd resell the parts I win on ebay, and trade in the 6. But it's you, not me, so do what you'll feel easiest living with.

Where do you get insurance dirt cheap? I'm 53, never had a speeding ticket or anything else and I certainly would not classify my rates as dirt cheap?
Willing to share name of your insurance company so I can check it out?
 
Geico, I pay $170 a month. Thats full coverage on a 03 Focus, 04 F150, 05 Mustang, and liability on a 88 GMC.

Im selling the Focus and GMC so the rate should go down quite a bit more.

I keep my cars in mint condition, I always get top $ when I sell or trade, I drive a hard bargin, so Im rarely upside down.

I usually keep a car 12-24 months, although I kept my 88GT for 11 years.

I have found its all about timing. I just bought a 04 F150 with 7300 miles on it. The dealer was asking 21,900. I pointed out that I could buy new for that price, I guess the truck had been on the lot for awhile because I offered 15,500 and they took it without even a whimper.

Anyway, the GT bumpers and duals are going on, maybe a procharger next spring.

I havent been working, but I start a new job Monday so the mod money will start flowing again.
 
I have a redfire V6 as my daily driver. I want a GT but I cannot have one. I chose to leave it stock and put the money in the bank. If I was going to upgrade, I would get the GT. The trade in value of a modified V6 4 years from now will be low.

Jenn, the way you described your DESIRE for using (and ABUSING) your horsey really has gotten me huffin and a puffin, but on the other hand it really sounds like the way my wife describes things about me LOL!!! I hope the next stallion isn't around the bend though LOL!!!

@Twofocused, to get to the point of this thread, I think you made a righteous choice. I traded in my '01 black 5-spd GT for my '05 V6 and have not regretted it one bit. I really like the idea of knowing that there are going to be some unique parts coming down the tubes for our 4.0L steeds. I do have an '88 LX 5.0L that I keep on hand for feeding my very high-performance musclecar thrills.

I do like the extra MPG that I get and the underdog 'sleeper' affect that my 4.0L stang brings. I can see myself making her a very quick car in the future and I will have personal satisfaction taking her to Gratiot and Woodward Ave. and spankin some V8 muscle (not to mention the rice). Last, but not least, I will have a very unique ride and not just another V8 GT. :banana:

I hear ya, I cant knock the GTs because Ive had a couple as well as some big cube high hp musclecars. I was crossing the continental divide on I-80 in my 67 GTX. 440 cubes, big cam, big carb. It reminded me of Hot Rod Lincolin "telephone poles looked like a picket fence". I was doing 80+ going up those steep grades, passing semis that were doing <10mph. That 440 was getting 5-7mpg. Its a scary thing to see a sign that says next services 75 miles when you have a 16 gallon tank, and your getting as little as 5 mpg. Thank God gas was $1 a gallon.

Anyway, I would have bought a GT but the 3-5k dealer price gourging killed my interest. I was willing to spend 25-26k, but not 33+ for a GT. I paid 20k out the door for my V6, the right car at the right price.

Im 45 and looking to be in a position to retire at 50, so I just am not going to blow my retirement on a over priced Mustang GT.

I ordered the rest of the parts to install the bumpers today, hopefully I will have everything and be able to do the install next weekend. Probley be the weekend after on the exhaust.

Im not sure what is more ghetto, having one muffler on a GT bumper, or hanging the left muffler so it looks like I have duals.

I would definitely say that hanging on the left muffler (if it is not functional) to look like you have duals is DEFINITELY ghetto. In my book functionality plays the most important role when it comes to putting together a ride. At this moment I have the GT muffler on the right side and a half-moon-shaped cut on the left waiting in anticipation to get up enough money to get my other GT muffler installed. I did this because here in Michigan it is starting to get cold and I don't want to be on the ground until spring and with it cut I can just take it in the muffler shop so they can fit the dual package together. I put my hangers on too by-the-way. I don't think there is nothing ghetto about doing a mod in steps (but trying to be functional along the way). :D
