Im getting a 9 inch!

Im puttin a fuel pump in my buddy's Firebird and hes giving me the 9 inch rear end out of his truck. He says its got 3.73's and limited slip. I guess ill find out once its out. I know Im gonna have to get it shortened and stuff re-welded.Does anyone know what the length of the axle should be to fit a 65 GT?

You'll also have to get a 4.5" pattern drilled in the axle flanges, and make sure the center of your wheels will fit over the center hub on the axle. Might be easier to get Moser to make you new axles with the right hub and stud spacing, then all you have to do is redrill the drums for the 4.5" pattern. Or you can get new wheels, but then you won't be able to rotate your wheels and tires.

If you use your 8in tubes and have them sectioned onto the 9in housing you can use your old axles and not have to worry about modding the truck axles, unless they are 31 spline. My experience with the above quote cost me about 60% of the cost of Moser custom axles. If you're gonna try shortening the axles you mind as well order customs and have them sized specifically for the frear you will put in the car. That means you could try narrowing from the stock housing to fit different wheel sizes under the car. Have fun.
