I'm getting out of the Mustang Game. Sorta long...

Yep, that's right. I'm done (sort of).

After fighting to get the car through inspection, I've decided that I'm not interested in it anymore (hence the 675 miles I've put on it in 2 years). I'm in college and really dont have the money to make things "right". The clutch is on it's way out and the trans is too. I'd need subframe connectors if I want to let the car go hard off the line and I really don't feel like forking out the 250 bucks to get those done right.

Between the Mustang and the two other pieces of **** that I drive, I'm going to sell all of them and buy a decent car that's reliable and comfortable. With a Wrangler, a Thunderbird and a Mustang, you aren't really offered a very forgiving ride.

I'll be putting the car back to stock (or as close as possible) and selling all the chit that's on it. I don't want this to become a "for sale" thread, so I'll update my sig as I start parting out the car.

As I said above, I'm not out of this for good. I picked up a stripped '89 LX hatchback that is down to the primer. It has no trans and the rear is blown up. It hasn't been started in years and I have no clue what kind of miles it's got on it. I will make it into a true pump gas street car. We'll see....

Anyway, I'll still be around....

Well, I guess the timing is kinda shady, but no, I'm serious.

And the whole "buying a car that needs more work/attention" isn't what this is about. That car (the '89 LX) was given to me for absolutely NOTHING. I'm stripping the car and turning it into a rolling chassis and spending money as I can afford to. I'm not insuring the car - it's not costing me a penny by sitting in my garage. My current Mustang does.

Instead of having 1 reliable, decently comfortable car, I have a half-assed Mustang, a Thunderbird with a beat trans and 180k on it, and a 4-cylinder Wrangler with 220k that can't get out of it's own way. And on top of that, I'm pay insurance for three cars. It's stupid, I know....which is why I'm selling all my junk to get back to stage 1.

Because thats not what I want to do. I'm limited because of the shortblock and it wouldn't make an iota of sense to pull a 62k mile shortblock. I've got a ton of weight to lose. And it's a convertible which isn't great for a drag-oriented street car.

Gotta do what you gotta do but my car costs 120 a year for fire that theft. Im pretty sure you could afford that. Then sell the two other cars and buy a cheap F150?

Yea I've also been there but since my car is paid for and insurance is cheap I'll stick with it. I mod it when money permits so its not a strain anyways. Good Luck Joe.

Joe, I'm sorry to hear this. I know you have a mindset on this and we're not going to change it. But we try to offer other avenues...............

Would selling the bird and maybe the Jeep (I have the feeling you drive the Jeep often) free up finances enough to do the SFC's and some other stuff to make the stang more enjoyable?

I do also know that sometimes we just get sick of a given car and want to get rid of it. I wish you the best of luck upon deciding what route makes sense. A reliable beater (like Patrick was driving last time he checked in with a new-car report. ) is a cool way to go for school. It's nice to have a nice unordinary ride for weekends and when not at school (or commuting). I'm kind of eclectic though...........

Also, very worth mentioning .... I know when it comes to selling things, especially cars, when the offer is there ... you must let it go. But please, for the sake of us 94-95 owners, don't sell it to some jack@$$ that knows nothing about cars. Try to let it go to an enthusiast .... or at least something close to that.

A similar example: The guy I bought my car from owns a lot & sells quite a few Stangs. He didn't have my car on it. It was at his house. When I showed up at his lot .... asking when he would get a 94 or 95 in & expressed my desire to own another one .... he took me to his house & sold it to me. That's what he was looking for. Someone that knew about them and wanted one as bad as me. Not asking that you do all that .... just don't let an idiot behind the wheel, lol.

Yeah it is tough getting rid of the car since it was my first car, but it's something I want to do.

Justin - An idea that I really like is my parents buying the car. My Mom said she wants it but in her words, she "doesn't want all that **** on there." Haha.

JT - Finances aside, the car just isn't enjoyable anymore. It's got cold start surging and stalling problems, and I'm about as computer-literate as a 75 year old man, which gets me absolutely no where with the Tweecer. The trans is finally starting to take a dump, and the clutch is on it's last leg (for drag racing purposes anyway).

I'm very anal about things, and the idea of starting from scratch (not even having paint on the car!) is something that I really like.

BTW, I've got a good line on a '99 Cadillac STS, black on black, chrome wheels, and 65,000 miles. :SNSign:

You should have bought a PMS then. The cold start problem would take 2 minutes to fix I would have even been willing to give you my cell # and walk you through it over the phone. Ah well, I like your new plan and i'm sure you'll build something nice and non-mediocre
