Im Having A Problem With My Mustang!!! Need Help

Well I just install a JLT Short Ram with the heatshield on my 2002 Mustang GT, after I install it I did a couple of runs around my block to feel the new upgrade, everything was good until, 2hours later the "Check Engine Light" came on, later on that day I was stop because I was waiting for the train to pass, and all of the sudden my car was acting weird. Like it would idle a lil below normal and sometimes it would idle at 500rpms or lower (about to turn off), the car would also shake a lil bit too and later on that night I would hear like a noise coming from the engine like clicking noise (best way to describe it) but it would do it after a while. Could this possible be because of the new intake? I mean i put right where it suppose to be and there is really not much to plug back in, except for two hoses and the MAF wire. And I recheck and even use cramps on the hoses so they wouldn't come out loose. So

what could the problem be???

The first step would be to pull codes. If the check engine light is on, then there is a stored code that you can retrieve. Many auto parts stores will even pull codes for free.

Without seeing the codes, I can have a guess at what the problem is... Does the JLT use an oil type filter? Sometimes, they are excessivly oiled and oil from the filter can end up on the MAF, which affect the readings of the MAF. If so, then just spray some residue free contact cleaner on the wire and it will clean up. May happen again depending on how much oil is on the filter.

But why would my car start to idle like its about to turn off? and idle really low? at 500rpms or lower. I mean the JLT intake i got was from americanmuscle.com and didnt read no complains about it. Could it be spark plugs? or something similar? I hope its not something big. Does the codes u were talking about has something to do with that?

The codes will tell you what the computer is sensing and is cuasing it to idle wierd or not run right. Autozone or places like that will read them for free. You can try disconnecting the battery for 5-10 min. then connect it back. It should "reset" some stuff and if it comes up agian then you have to have the code read, but maybe it stumbled onto something JLT is not a bad part by any means, but maybe something just had a hiccup

The check engine light is on because the computer thinks something is wrong. You can find out what the computer sees is wrong by pulling codes. The code will give you a short description of what the problem is.

Oil on the MAF could cause a rough idle because it prevents the computer from seeing the correct aiflow, and it then adds the wrong amount of fuel. Of course, this is just my rough guess and probably isn't correct. You'll have to pull the codes on the computer and find out what the computer thinks is wrong.

sounds like you are leaking air between the Mass air meter and the throttle body or you left some other hose off going to the engine and its sucking in unmetered air

I would start by checking for leaks on the intake. Make sure all hoses and clamps are on and tight. Then spray the MAF w/ maf cleaner and see if that works. Also have the codes pulled. Not much else that it could be, unless something else is wrong out of coincidence

I definatly agree about pulling and reading the codes. It can give you the general area of where the problem is. But from what I understand, you may have a vacuum leak and your getting 'unmetered' air. That can cause your car to idle funny. Check all the fittings and hoses to make sure that everything is good. Also, you may have a problem with your IAC. It controls you idle when your at closed throttle.
