i am ordering my motor this week, the GT40 345hp crate motor. i just have a question about breaking in the motor, i assume i should not get on the car for at least 500 miles. do u think i would a need a chip burned and a dyno tune? and if so should i do that after i break in the motor? thanks

I'm sure you'll need a chip to keep the idle in controll (surging)

As far as break in. A lot of guys will tell you that the engine is broken in as soon as you start it. But I believe in babying it for the first 500, change the oil, a little harder on it the next 500, change the oil and from there its broken in. Then go to 3,000 and do your normal maintenance. But, I'm paranoid when it comes to that stuff and change my oil no later than 2,500 even in my 110,000 stock blocked car.

At the very least baby the first 500 and change the oil and then change it again at 3,000 just so you're at the right interval and you should be good.

Good Luck!!

that's an awesome time, i wonder what it can do when it has a chip lol, but right now my car idles at around 1000rpms, it needs a tune bad nad sometime it stalls, somewhere down the road i'll get a chip and dyno tune it intil then 12.7's is god for me lol thanks for all the advice

I'd do some more research on the break-in period if I were you. I've been hearing more and more lately that "taking it easy" on a new or rebuilt engine is not only NOT necessary, but that it actually helps seat the rings if you fire it up and go romp on it for the first few miles. What's funny is that most of the guys that say that a gentle break-in period isn't necessary are guys who build motors for a living. :)

I'd try to do as much research as possible, because I'd want what was best for my new engine. Do forum searches, ask experienced engine builders, and call places like CHP or DSS or Keith Craft and see what they have to say about the subject.

Jesse had this motor and he went 12.7's at 108 MPH with no chip.

Yea it went good for me. The cam was retarded 2 degrees, and i was using a tweecer at the time, but only changed things like fans, idle, and simple stuff, never actually got to "tune" it. Im sure there was a little more left in the car, too bad i never got to find out.

my friend was telling me to go easy on it for the first 500 miles or so, so as soon as i get it dropped in u thinki should rip it? and take it to the track?

I remember someone on the forums talking about seeing a guy take his 03 Cobra to the track with the paper plates still on it...I think he might have even been on his way home from purchasing the car from the dealership!!

u ran an awesome time without a tune, when i get the motor in do u guys think i should break it in first before i get it dyno tuned and a chip burned? i hope today that i order the motor, i'll let u guys know what happens, thanks
