Im screwwed...main cap cracked

Well today I got my extra 302 block on the engine stand. I had it all broken down. Then it happened. I started taking off the main caps so I could pull the crank out and I dropped one of the caps. That b#*@% snapped a piece right off that thing. Now im having a bad day. I had high hopes for that thing.

Dont panic yet, try to find another cap and just have the mains rebored/honed. A good machine shop should be able to handle it. Or go big bucks and get some milodon main caps for it. I have no idea if they would add much strength ot not, maybe someone else has an idea. good luck

i always thought that the main caps where matched to the block.

Its the very front cap, closest to timing chain.

I would head over to a local machine shop and talk about what to do. I'm sure they have seen far more cases of needed a main cap than any of us has.

You guys think that maybe I could go to a junkyard and pull it off another 302
engine then just take it in to get reworked?
