im sick of my exhaust leak

alright...i tried that stupid gasket that everyone uses here. its the metal one with a coating on it or blah blah. well it didnt work and i burned through that one. i can see the burn marks on the outter rim of the gasket and its definately leaking through there. i have another year til i have emissions so whats something i can do for a year thats pretty permenant short of welding?? i want something that is gonna hold no matter what. i hate the sound of my car at idle cause i hear it leaking. at least when moving it doesnt leak much and sounds great but who here has gone through drastic measures to fix an exhaust leak and what can i do to get rid of mine??

If your talking about the headers, undo the pipes on that side, tighten the header bolts firmly, then reocnnect the pipes... Worked for me.

the headers dont leak one bit. mine leak from the header to hpipe and the hpipe to the catback. no matter how hard i try to line them up (i use a jack to push them up and try to line them up) they still leak after awhile. i used paper gaskets for a lil and it worked great for about 3 days til they burned away. that is when my car sounded the best it ever did......noise out the back only . i want it to sound like that always. ill try the copper stuff. im just lookin for a gasket that wont burn away (i cant beleive the metal stuff burned away) and will last through some tough stuff....thanx

believe me....for a good month i sat underneath my car about every other day trying to realign my hpipe and headers and blah blah....nothing worked. i was pretty much looking for something to take up any space that was inbetween my headers to hpipe and hpipe to catback.....just looking for something to fix my prob for a year.....i personally dont care to much about price as long as it works

u use gaskets for that??? if u did there is no way its lined up right.

why wouldnt a gasket make it fit better?? its a ball and socket joint. if you use a maleable (holy christ i cant spell) material, you should be able to fill any gap that might be from that ball and socket joint

Thats odd that those connections dont fit well. They should fit very tightly. The Permatex Copper should work. Just apply a good amount to both pipes when cold and then bolt them back together. Let it dry for 12 hours and see if it leaks.

12 hours.....i havent slept 12 hours in the past 4 days....would i be able to put a small heat source on it to make it firm up a lil quicker like a hairdryer or something. i was kinda mad that it didnt line up perfectly too but not matter how many times i try to readjust it (im not even joking when i say over 30 times), it still has a leak. i pretty much gave up on it. that i why i wanted to go to extreme measures. i will try the copper permetex tomorrow. ive tried a few pastes that are supposedly the "best stuff ever" and they have all busted through and gave out after awhile.....

JB Weld makes some stuff that will work as well, but forget about taking it back apart.

I finally put my car back together and started tripping when it sounded like a NASCAR. I thought it was my mod to the E7's taking off the egr tube in the rear but I felt no leak. Finally crawled under the car and realized I forgot to put in the O2 sensors!
I hear you on that leak buddy, my H-pipe had a small crease in the flange and it had a tiny leak that I could hear and it drove me crazy. It sucks to have to crawl under there and release the H-Pipe for just that!
