If it were me, Id buy a SCT tuned chip. Thats what Im going to do, because, to me, it will give you more for your money, and you can have the person do a lot more. You can also put it on the dyno to check as you are doing it. This is what im going to do, and I was planning on a predator at first, but decided against it. JMHO, take it for what its worth.

With a Predator, you can get a custom tune just like you are describing. Instead of putting the tune on a chip, it would be loaded via the Predator. Then you get the ability to tweak it, recalibrate the speedo, turn off O2 sensors, log data, read/clear OBDII codes, etc. That sounds like more for your money to me.
If you have more faith in SCT tuners than DiabloSport tuners, then you can go to them and get the Xcalibrator instead. Get the custom made tune and load it with the Xcalibrator. Wait for the QuickTune software and buy their cable and do some minor tweaks to the tune on your PC.
In both cases, you are starting with a professionally made tune. The handheld tuner just gives you more options than a chip.
its not the software, its the tuner. With the predator you can recieve a email tune and load it into the predator. Both software can do the same thing if the tuner knows how to use it. Benefits of predator are datalogging and you can further adjust parameters.

i personally don't really feel i knew enough to feel comfortable doing it myself; i just waited til i got most all my modding done & hooked up with him.
i guess its pretty much the same thing, but i'd have to say u would get better/ more personal attention from them than u would with the predator.
