I'm wanting to buy a cobra intake but have a ?

A local mustang shop has a ported cobra intake upper has been honed and the lower have been ported to match the gasket. Would this intake be ok on a mostly stack car, mods are in my sig and I dont plan on adding much to the car after this. If I get this intake i'm going to buy a 65mm throttle body to go with it. I know a ported cobra is alittle to much right now but I like it because its the 94-95 style and doesnt need the elbow adapter.

I got one last year on ebay for a great price fully ported upper and lower. It is one of the best mods I have done. My motor is still mostly stock but it did make a difference (not dyno but SOTP diff). I say go for it you will be happy with the result.

The cobra intake manifold was the 1st thing i did to my car besides a K&N. mine is still stock (not ported) but i can feel a huge difference from 3000 RPM+. I got mine for $290 shipped(upper/lower) Just make sure you get a good price on it.

I've been out of town this week, the owner of the shop wants $450 for the intake and will install it for $200 so $650 total for a intake installed or I could install it myself.Does this sound like a good price?

Thats alot of ching....650.00...Being that tightass I am, The intake I might go for. but 200.00 to install...No dice...But thats just me....
If thats your only plans for the car than a cheaper deal can be had for sure..
Not that its not worth what he's asking, just high for the amount of intakes like that you see around, granted it's got a few extra bucks into it for the work done....Comes down to the ching I guess...

definatly not $300-350 or so for a ported cobra intake...try corral.net's classifieds... you can put it on yourself for free plus the cost of 3 gaskets and about 2-3 hours depending on your experience
when you start talking aroud $450 for a ported intake, why not just get a trick flow or edlebrock or some intake that will out flow the cobra anyway

low end trq it will be hard to beat the good ol' gt40.

200 for install... damn its like 10$ antifreeze, 12-18$ for gaskets, and about 3-4 hours if you go SLOW and its your first time doing a intake swap....

For a ported cobra intake if its done correct prob. will not be too bad on price.

if its your only mod for awhile, I would look at getting your stock lower ported by tmoss on here. The install price is prob. more than what you will have in your stock lower that route...and the intake will flow "in the area" of a gt40 with even more low end trq.

Honestly if you've never changed an intake before pay the $200 for peice of mind. Ported and honed for $450 isn't that bad. You could keep it forever.

i had 500 just in extrude honing on my 93 cobra intake so the price isn't too bad. the one i put on my current car really woke it up , but i too agree 200 is too much for the install. if you buy it from them they should give you a better deal.

Why pay for used when for the same price you can have new

Just cause it has been ported ..............
That don't mean it has been ported correctly

Even if you went with a new intake and the SN setup (elbow) pushed the price up a bit beyond the used Cobra. I'd still go with the new intake. Blow off the tb and the total amount spent will be close.

The tb will do very little for you anyway.

For a honed upper and ported lower $450 is not bad imo. That cobra will outflow any stock eddy performer/trickflow having they extra work.

If it TRULY extrude hone, Then the price for the intake is fine....Im with Joe on paying if you havent done it before, but Im guessing a shop shouldnt charge more than 2 hours labor rate, which is about $120-$150, depending on where you are.....Maybe you can negotiate a total price for part and install?
