I just bought a new impact wrench, a post-christmas present to myself - the AC powered DeWitt 1/2" drive. 345 ft/lbs of torque I figure ought to do the job pretty well, until I move again and have a larger garage where I can have a nice big air compressor.

My question is, which is the most useful set of impact sockets for working on a 95 gt 5.0? I was looking at the craftsman (metric) impact socket sets at sears.

I find that I use 3/4", 11/16", and 13/16" most (sometimes a 21mm somewhere in there). Actually, you can use the regular sockets on them, but they can shatter and throw pieces everywhere. But they're warrantied, so just don't tell them you were using them on an impact wrench and you're okay, lol.

Hmmm.... Methinks that 345 ft/lbs of torque may be capable of lodging metal socket shrapnel into the sheetrock in my garage (or into other more delicate softer materials)...

I have a snap-on 18v 1/2in drive cordless impact.... . Thanks to the fact that the father-in-law owns a franchise:p .

That sucker has broke a 12mm snap-on impact and snap-on 12mm swivel impact socket along with a few craftsman deep well metric sockets (non-impact). The best socket for the 12mm rear drive shaft is the reg. 12mm 1/2 drive socket, it has just the right amount of tapper and is still strong.

I would say 1/2in, 9/16ths, and a good metric set to start off with. Also for getting off the lugs get one of those lug nut saver sockets that have the "soft" liner for the chrome lugs.

I have realy been wanting to get get a set of 12pt and 6pt sockets in both metric and std. I have a few 6pts but mostly 12...I realy wish I had the better fitment that comes with the 6pt at times.
