Well it's important to me

1. I'm building some rear brake lines and in the search for fittings, I have come across the size -3 AN..can anyone tell me what this means? Is this some kind of metric system? Also...

2. I was thinking of trying to eliminate flex hoses on the rear wheels and send the solid lines right into the calipers (New Cobra/Mach1 brakes by the way). I heard that some of the newer systems are set up this way but I was not sure.

BTW, I have Brembo's in the front and will be running the Cobra's in the rear...also using a vaccumm resivour to help the booster.

A/N fittings are derived from the military. The A/N actually stands for Army / Navy and these fittings were designed with close tolerances so no thread sealant would be required when assembling them. They are all aluminum and have their own sizes expressed in numerical order.

Think of 1 A/N as a sixteenth of an inch. 8 A/N would be half an inch and 16 A/N would be one inch. Do not get A/N fittings confused with pipe thread fittings. They do not mesh but adapters between the two can be found.

Your mention of hard lines to the rear brakes concerns me. Somewhere in the system you will need to run a flexible line to accomodate the travel of the rear axle. This can be done from the frame to the caliper with braided hose or from the frame to the axle with braided hose and then a hard line along the axle to the caliper. Your choice but make sure you allow room for movement and full extension of the axle.
