Ok this is important, I am supercharging my car with the Whipple H/O kit and my friends keed telling me that I am stupid to spend that much money because I am going to crack my block with that much horsepower. Its going to make a little under 450rwhp. Is this true or am I safe to drive it?

um

From what I've gathered from my local speed shop and the guys at the track the block can take up to 600 horses HOWEVER the rods are not very reliable after 400 rwhp. What I would do is detune the supercharger and get a conservative tune from a proffessional then save up some more money and get some forged internals. Pistons Rods and a Crank should run u about 1600 plus install. ALSO stay away from stroking the engine if also using a supercharger. the pistons will aparently travel dangerously close to the bottom of the cylinders.

Oh and why Whipple?

The general concensus from the research I've done is around 450 rwhp is safe with a good tune.

Although there have been engines let go at 400rwhp with a good tune also.

And yes the rods seem to be the weakest link at this point. Every block that has been ventilated has been because a rod snapped or twisted.

As for building the motor up... the parts are not the cost it's the labor.

Look to spend AT LEAST 6k for a built motor... and that's a very low figure... it will probably run more like 7-7,500 k.

As for how long it will last? No one knows yet... the motor hasn't been out long enough.

Good luck!

You should bend a rod before the block cracks and I doubt
it will do that as long as you dont increase the boost psi or
pound the crap out of it for hours at a time.

The problem is not bending a rod, but breaking a rod and sending the resulting schrapnel through the side of the block.

trans!!??

I thought these 5 speeds were pretty beefy. Has ANYONE found the limitations of our stock manual trannys? sure the clutch might puss out but I figured the rest of it was good.

Wow

You guys have a lot more money than I do. Since my 07 GT is my only car, I cant afford to test the limits of my car till it blows. Do a lot of you all have other cars to drive? If some guys have allready blown engines in there new or near new GTs from over boosting or just thrashing it to submission, they must have other transportation. Do you think that with proper head work and timing and tuning, bigger injectors, and serious exhuast system, and Stage 3 cams a person could approach 400 horses?

Just guessing at the parts needed, but is 400 horsepower a real possibility on just motor?
If so, I could live with that. :D

Guys are trying to get there but no one so far...... talk to some of the guys on modularfords.com bunch of superchargers and a bunch of saleen kb and whipple guys alot of them on stock blocks still just run 8-9 psi you should be fine but there are always variables

I'm one of the guys matt is talking about. I haven't even had the car on the dyno yet but with a 1/4 mile time of 11.427 @ 119.92 at a race weight of 3680 lbs. my estimated rwhp is in the 490 range. My car sees the track between 2-3 time s a week with an average of 12 runs each time. I'm running 10 psi on 93 octane.

It has been said before and it will be said again. It's all in the tune.
Dyno Joe has a customers turbo 05 vert running in the 10's without an engine failure.

Do your reasearch and when you're done do some more. The more you know about your car the better. Look around on many different boards. Get many different opinions then formulate your own based on what everyone else who has a blower says.
