The IMRC's are like secondaries on a 4 barrel carbarator...they are butterflys that block the secondary intake ports when the engine is below 3250rpms and they help promote better torque at low rpms by effectively making the engine a 3 valve engine...then when the engine needs to breathe better they open at 3250rpms and let air into the secondary valve to give higher upper RPM horsepower...If they are stuck open you might have a cable on the IMRC actuator broken or the actuator itself might be shot...Reach behind the intake between the head and the intake on both sides and you'll feel a small throttle body looking thing and try to turn it...if it turns freely you probably have a cable broken or the actuator is bad...if they don't turn freely they might just be gummed up and dirty which is a pretty big maintainance issue on these cars and you'll have to take the intake off and clean them with carb cleaner...do a search on IMRC's on here or the Corral and you'll find lots of information about them...

Thank you so much, yeah it turns freely so i guess the actuator is shot, i bought the car from a dealer and i have a 3 year warranty on it so ill have them replace it. Is this also why ive been getting bad gas mileage when im not in the higher rpm range?

Actually I thought about what I said...if it turns freely without any resistance you might have a broken cable...

The only real way of knowing what's going on under there is to take the intake manifold off and see...and clean them and the secondary ports up while you are in there...it's a nice weekend day project actually...get a Haynes Manual from Autozone and it tells pretty much how to take the intake off and there are some nice writeups about it floating on the internet too...

Do a search on Yahoo for "IMRC cleaning"

I probably gained a little up top with them, but I did loose some down low but the long tubes helped with that...

I wouldn't recommend deleting them on an N/A car with stock heads and intake...if you are blown it might be worth getting rid of them because the blower helps make up for the losses and it'll really make it scream in the upper RPMS...

The deletes are basically the IMRC's with the butterflies removed and the holes filled with epoxy...the computer does need a custom tune on it then though to tell it the butterflies aren't there anymore...

YAY!!! Fixed the IMRC's today... I actually took off work cause i was so excited to clean them and replace the actuator. Went very smooth and this is the first time i ever worked on a mustang. Ive rebuilt the motor and valve guides on my cosworth 190 AMG before, but i cant believe how smooth it went. Talk about power. Ive got a mac intake coming, bassani xpipe with high flow cats, accufabs oval throttle body, diablo tune for everything, and brembo front and rear rotors. How much do you think it will make?

Don't order the MAC unless you already have...too hot. Get a JLT.

I say around 280-285 rwhp.

JLT CAI is the best intake i the market. You can also have it custom painted to match your car. I had the MAC and it sucked. It got so hot that I burned my hand on it. Also when I had the car dynoed I only gained 4RWHP. With the JLT most people gain 12-20 RWHP depending on other mods. Bassani X-pipe is a great choice. You will want to get a catback also like Magnaflow, bassani, Borla, or SLP. Chambered mufflers like MAC and Flowmasters don't make horsepower just noise. My Dyno numbers are 332RWHP and 330RWT. PM me if you want more info.
