My old kenwood HU went out in my stang and i'm looking to replace it. Car is a 92 gt and i dont have an alarm so i know it's really easy to break into. I'm debating on whether to go with one of the new top end sony or pioneer HU's or get a clarion screen with a 6 disc cd/dvd changer. Would you guys put a screen in a fox? I'm really worried it would get broken into and stolen. I probably wouldnt use it that much for movies either but it's just so dang cool. It would end up costing me close to the same price for each.

I have an in-dash clarion very very cool. Lots of "WOW..." power when I first press that open button infront of someone. I don't really watch alot of dvd's while I'm driving for obvious reasons but if someone is in the car with me I like to keep the passenger entertained. Granted I could just talk to the person but then again sometimes even talking to a person can destract you. Not to mention in-dash units get big responses at shows for obvious reasons. Oh an in-dash dvd players are great when you are
1. stuck in heavy heavy traffic
2. tailgating
3. hanging out with a club or at a show

Really if you're smart about it an in-dash screen won't bother you. Granted it's sad that people get distract while watching a movie while driving but then again why would you want to watch a movie while you are driving alone anyway? It's really more for your passenger(s).

In dash dvd without question if you can afford it. I dont think you need to worry about it being stolen( if you are smart about using it, same thing with subs.) If you wanted to, you could put it on your car insurance. My car insurance charges me 40 a year for stereo equipment replacement up to $2000. So if all my stuff gets jacked, my insurance company will buy me new stuff as long as I have my receipts. If you get the unit installed at like best buy, circuit city or something like that then you will probably not be able to watch dvds while in drive. HOWEVER, If you know someone that can help you out, there is a way to wire the parking brake (dont ask how, I have seen it done but never done it myself) where the dvd player will play, even if the car is not in park. If you are interested in that, then I suggest checking the web for links on how to install it that way. Good luck!

Just something to think about

Just thought I would post this link as well, something I saw a few weeks ago....from the article

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - When a pickup truck crossed the double yellow line along Seward Highway and killed two occupants of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, police initially thought the accident was another tragic mistake by a momentarily distracted driver.

Then they spotted the dashboard DVD player.

In what may be the first trial of its kind in the nation, prosecutors have accused the pickup truck's driver of second-degree murder for watching a movie instead of the road when he crashed head-on into the Jeep.

I totally agree, I just thought that charge of second degree murder was a little bit overkill and I thought everyone should see the article...

I totally agree. In cituations like this most the time just knowing that you killed someone has to be punishment enough. Or maybe suspend or take away his license but seriously second degree murder is way too harsh.

As far as I'm concerned, it is murder. If you're too irresponsible enough to realize that's a stupid thing to do, then you should face the consequences for taking innocent lives because of it.

I dont want to get in a debate about it or anything, the thing that gets me is where do you draw the line, if you were on a cell phone when you got in the accident, is that murder? What about if you are eating in the car? Or drinking coffee? Or yelling at kids in the backseat? A distraction is a distraction is a distraction, if one is to be considered murder, they all should. Im done talking about it now....

So is whether i should get a screen or not, lol. I borrowed the pioneer 8600mp from a friend and am going to use it the next few weeks and see how i like it. The display is ok nothing great but the eq settings/options are great.
