In the middle of PI swap...couple questions

Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of the PI swap and we're down to the block but I was wondering if anyone could tell me the torque specs for the head bolts and the pattern they go back in (if there is one) and also the intake manifold specs. Also, do the cam gear bolts have a specific torque spec too? And if anyone has any hints to take out that god awful oil dipstick housing...PLEASE tell me!! Any other hints or helpful information is greatly appreciated. Can't wait till the project is done so I can see the results!!

Do you happen to know what manual to get the information from? Would they sell on of these books at a local auto store?

It's a must to have a chilton/haynes manual, especially for the cam timing and other various tq specs. You can pick one up at any auto store

what he said plus torque to yield stuff. get that right. it is not just a torque spec.

Make sure you use new bolts!!!! Put clean oil on both sides of the head bolt washers as well as the bolt threads, then doing one head at a time tighten the bolts to 30 ft lbs. Be sure to follow the sequence in Tom's pic. Then go back [in the same sequence] and turn the bolts an additional 90 degrees. Then go back once again and give them all one final 90 degree turn. You can then go on to the other head and do the same thing.

thanks everyone for the help and great information. I'll be making a stop at murrays this morning for that manual. I have all new bolts, it came with the installation kit along with all the new gaskets.

The Ford manuals are really good but they're pricey, but if you plan on keeping your car a long time and are doing the work on it yourself, it's worth it. Unfortunately you would likely have to wait to get it as I'm thinking the Ford dealer would have to order one in for you, so I think the next choice would be Chiltons. Good luck with the swap!!! Just don't get in a rush and double check everything you do. You'll be glad you went through all the trouble when it's done.
