Hi all!

I'm new to StangNet as I am likely inheriting my father's 1965 Mustang because my parents want it out of their garage. I'm not really sure where to start so I'll outline the facts below:
  • I think it's been in my family since '65.
  • Dad had it in pretty good condition (I think?) until it was put in the garage in 1999 and has since stayed there. Not sure if it was running in 1999 when it was put into the garage.
  • Unsure as to the last time it officially ran.
  • Dad was working on restoration of the interior and exterior, so we have many new parts in boxes.
  • No idea the condition of the vehicle - it's been under a cloth in their garage for almost 30 years. I've peeked at it and the exterior seems ok(??) and the interior needs replacement(??).
  • I've attached a VERY old (likely 35/40+ years old) photo of the car. I don't have any other photos of it as it sits today, but could get some if needed to assess.
  • I have zero mechanic/auto experience.
  • My Dad and the Mustang are located about an hour north of NYC in New York.
  • I'm located in central Massachusetts.

I'm hoping to get some guidance on where to start. My goal is to restore the car and get it back on the road, but I also understand there might be at a point where restoration financially doesn't make sense. Are there any reputable places or persons in Westchester/Putnam County New York or Central Mass that could come out and take a look at it? Any other advice would be super appreciated as I'm starting from zero. Thank you in advance!

-RMH

And "zero" is where you are still.

Try getting [current and detailed] images of the rig and we may be able to help.

Yes, need lots of photos!
Especially underneath such as the floor pans and frame rails. A photo of the engine would help identify things too.
