Hey guys,

I would like to get some opinions on my 347 and drive train combo. I have the 5speed and 3.55 gear in now, should have the motor in this weekend. Do you think I will be near 400hp/400fpt? What kind of 1/4 mile time would this combo in my fastback get on these street tires?

347 short block/flat top pistons
Pro Comp aluminum castings
185cc intake runners/2.02 and 1.60 valves
Roller Rockers
Ford F303 camshaft
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Holley 650 Double pumper carb
Ford Racing T5z 5 spreed transmission
3.55 rear axle
Hipo manifolds - may change to JBA headers later

All going in a 1965 fastback with 14/70/205 tires.

Not going to the dragstrip, just going for a fast street/ and occasional highway race..

Local guy here has a similar buildup. Not sure on the camshaft but he went nigh 12's with his in 3000' air. Those heads as stock aren't the best though.

I agree on the heads. I will have to see how they perform. I can always swap them out later on, if I find a money tree...lol

High 12's huh? I would like to be around the low 12's, maybe with headers that could happen?

Oh, and there is always the 125hp shot of NOS. I have never used it, how many shots do you get out of a small bottle?

if your not going to the drag strip, why do you want to know what times it will do?

Im still very confused on your thinking of this engine and what your expectations are.

To give me an idea of what I can expect. Not sure where your confusion is? My expectations are that it will be significantly faster from 1000 rpm to 6500 rpm compared to what it was with the worn out 289. I also expect it to be faster than a 65 shelby gt350.

High 12's vs low 12's. Not really something your going to notice on the street IMO. I would say his car is more a mid 12's car, some of it is the slow shifting that hurts his ET.

Kinda like when I drive our Pantera I run 11.60's-11.70's. Put my granny shifting dad in it and its 12.20-12.50's.

It was a custom deal. 276/282 at .050 and just over 700 lift. 110c 6000 stall, 8200 shifts, 8500 thru the end.

That is badass! gotcha on the 12's. I have been looking for the right street combo for mine, you know, something that will hang with a new 5.0, or better. lol

I do not see this combo running 12's on 205/70/14 tires. Too much holding it back. Tiny street tires being one. The hipo manifolds definitely have to go. At least get 1 5/8" long tube headers with minimum 2.5" mandrel bent dual exhaust. What is the rest of your exhaust like? What mufflers? I would suggest good see through mufflers like Magnaflow.

400 fwhp would be approx 340 rwhp with the 5 speed. Enough to run high 11's in a 2950 race weight vehicle. My car runs 11's at that weight with better heads(AFR), intake(Vic Jr.), carb(750 Demon), exhaust(headers & 3").

I would guess it will run 13's as is with that exhaust and those tires.

+1 on 13'S until the exhaust and tire limitation are rectified. I run 12's in my coupe and that is with a 275 rear tire, and full length headers. I have a little more cam and heads than you as well (although I have an AOD trans). When I run skinnys I end up leaving my ET on the ground. Still.... the car will be a kick in the pants to drive.

Yes those tires will be a major problem in running a decent time..Especially with a stick car..
I have to disagree about not feeling much difference between a low and a high 12 second car..That is a huge difference in power...

Im not a fan of the pro comp heads unless theyve been gone thru by a competent head shop. I ran a 347 with eldelbrock performer rpms and a comp 274HR cam and it was an animal.
